The pillar could be seen several miles from the west, lovingly painted white and in good condition. 2/3 passed today and gifted to accommodation providers whose rates are realistic to what they are offering for single occupiers. Very spoilt by Travelodges rates and rooms.

My third visit, same route as previous visits from Housesteads car park. A day of Trig Points with views of great feats of civil engineering - first this TP on Hadrians Wall, then a 160 mile drive to Alkborough TP 0813 a TP with views of the magnificent Humber Bridge! ~~ 18/06/2011 A leisurely exploration of the more interesting and accessible sections of Hadrian's Wall with my pal Richard Hoban, AKA 'Professor Yaffle' who was up to stay with us in Northumberland for a few days.

03/10/18 My second visit, a quick dash up and down from Housesteads, and the purchase of an exorbitantly expensive bottle of water from the visitor centre on our return. Great views from the TP, no doubt about that.

Didn't think there was room to park at Moss Kennels. Asked at property @ NY813699 and very pleasant lady there had no problem if I parked at right angles to road, adjacent to house wall and track. Very grateful on a miserable wet afternoon. Sadly the two information boards along the Wall were illegible and falling apart.

Wanted to come here for ages, one of the more gobsmacking places visited recently. The Wall nearby and the whinsill sidling on it's way south.


Leaving the sunny west for cloudy east for third day in the row, Sewingshields Crag is rearing in the middle distance.

Refusing to pay £4 to park in the nearly empty car park at Housesteads eventually managed to find a roadside park near to the Old Repeater Station. Followed the footpath directly to the pillar. Threatening skies to the west so didn't stay too long.

Parked in entrance to row at Moss Kennels. Once the wall is reached there's a great view up towards the pillar. Fantastic view from the trig including Criffell, The Cheviot and Cross Fell. Great views also of Broomlee Lough and back towards Winshields.

Day 3 of the Hadrian's Wall walk. Sewingshields Crags is one of the 'ups' on the wall, but not the highest point. Lovely prominent site with superb 360deg views. Pillar has remains of a white paint job; original cap (painted white); 1 sight hole open.

Parked at Housesteads, then followed footpath along Wall to the Trig. Approx 45mins each way from car park to trig. Fantastic, world class location. Car park charge is £4 but you can use the ticket at other Roman Wall car parks

stunning location on edge of whinsill crags, with great views to the west of the whinsill outcrops and to the east towards Hexham. Parked car beside The Old Repeater Station hostel and called in for a rather good cup of coffee after descending.

Easily accessible and highly visible. On Hadrians Wall footpath. I came up from Housteads and also bagged the associated cache. Pillar in good condition, if badly painted. Original plug with indented lettering.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 30th September 1951 costing £20.6s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY86/T45 in 1953. Levelled for height also in 1953. Last maintained by the OS in July 1978. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces south, ~169°. Vented through east sight hole.

vgc, painted white, metal cap, deep letters. Neat pasture summit, great view. Lured up north by a decent forecast but rained most of the day. Good scenery: this the best of the day. Small low section of Hadrian's Wall nearby.

Third trig on Hadrian's Wall and second in one day for us. Fantastic views. Wish I'd known at the time it is owned by the School of CivEng and Geosciences at Newcastle Uni - the geosciences bit is my alma mater (probably explains my obsession for these things) so would have paid it especial homage

Parked on roadside just west of Moss Kennels and climbed up from the south on a footpath again good solid Northumbrian scenery on one of the most interesting stretches of the wall

Fabulous views on offer from this trig which sits along the Hadrian's Wall trail. We logged this one whilst doing the walk and were lucky to be able to experience the scenery when there was good visibilty. The pillar has been repainted white at some point - including the cap! This paint has also unfortunately dripped over the flush bracket.

This trig pillar is owned by the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. (A little known fact).
