After going under the viaduct and up Glen Finnan a sign pointed the way up the ridge to Sgurr Nan Coireachan. Good progress was made initially up the faint path but cloud had settled on the summit and a few false summits along with a little handwork had to be endured before reaching the cylindrical trig in the middle of a cairned wall. Unfortunately the cloud hung around on munro no.137, not clearing until on the ridge leading to Sgurr Thuilm

HISTORY: Pillar completed 25th May 1958, cost not on record. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NG80/24 by distomat survey in 1959. Levelled for height also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in July 1978. SITE VISIT: Free public car park possibly provided by Glenfinnan Estate at NM906808. Estate Manager 'Alastair' is friendly and welcoming, and asked that we keep to the paths on the Munros as the deer were calving in Coire Thollaidh. Followed private estate road then track to NM918852 then direct route up Sgurr a Choire Riabhaich to summit. Vanessa in wind shelter. Column in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces southwest, ~233. Sight holes all buried in loose boulders. Full 360 panoramic views when clouds would lift. Continued along ridge to bag other Munro, Sgurr Thuilm and down Druim Choire a Beithe to rejoin mapped track at NM926857 for the long walk back along the estate road. 11 hour round trip with 45min and 15min stops respectively on each Munro and other random five minute stops along the way.

A hard slog up from Glenfinnan but the blue skies made it easier. Quality stalkers path low down gives easy access to Sgurr a' Choire Riabach but the map distances mean little in this part of the world. A Vanessa with a killer view is the reward and I was lucky to have excellent visibility. I could make out the T-D gap on the southern Cullin, all the pinnacles on Sgurr nan Gillean and something I fancied to be Slioch in the far north. Felt like the luckiest person in the world up there, a man with the key to the magic door! Plus the ravens were out (lovely bird!), supervising their youngs' first flights. Did the horseshoe round to Sgurr Thuilm then down to the river for a swim. Diamond day. PS- the trig looked in good condition. No spalling of structure.
