Approach from the minor road due east. Parking at the decent sized layby at the start of the track. Follow the track until the sharp left turn, then up the gap between the planting blocks. At the far end of the gloomy tunnel, a vague path then leads all the way up onto the ridge and hence to the pillar. Great views from the top, away to the west snow was glinting on the far distant hills.A most enjoyable walk on a grey December aftenoon.

My second visit, same route as previously. The route much more overgrown at this time of year, the bracken head high making finding the 'hidden' firebreak much more challenging; and on a very warm, still evening the flies that lurked in the bracken were an unpleasant experience. However we came out here tonight expecting a fantastic sunset and were suitably rewarded

Parked in layby on 68 just north of Hass junction, walking along the minor road SW then following the track west at NT683096. After about 400m at a left turn in the track I continued on uphill through the trees on a well trodden path to gain the eastern edge of the ridge and continued along path to get to the trig which sits in a splendid location, easily seen why this site was chosen for an old fort. I continued along the ridge, dropping off to the north and through a gate and firebreak to the forest road below White Hill. From here I followed the forest road coming round by the Hass lochs and back to the road junction to close the loop on what was a very enjoyable outing.

Tackled this one as it was getting dark. Not a good idea. I should know better. Followed the overgrown track down through the trees and at the obvious right hand bend on the other side of the dip, took a hidden tunnel which is just to the right of the track. Once at the top, the track to the summit was obvious. Didn’t hang around. With CJ.

Great walk although slightly boggy in bits. When the track splits take the one that goes straight head up the hill, avoids any scrambling up the slopes.

This wee hill is probably very pretty on a summers today, not today. Parked at NT681094 due to snow on the road at the gate way. As many other people, followed the track along and then up the fire break where the wind and rain / sleet nearly took me off my feet. Good to get to the trig and back down. Spent 15 min unblocking a drain under the track to let the melt water away instead of it running down the track and washing it away. My good deed for the day was rewarded with the rain slowing to a light drizzle!!

How beautiful. Our 2nd of 3 trigs today.Track through a wooded glade leads to a hillside quarry then up a very steep hill. We clearly chose the wrong approach. This trig is located within a hillfort and commands spectacular panoramic views. Found the footpath to descend. I reckon a rarely visited trig. It possesses a wow factor. Worthy of a high score. Whatever approach you chose it is well worth the effort.

Good track from the entrance to the trout fishery to within 200 metres or so of the pillar. Followed the track to the turning point at the end then straight up through the dense, steep plantation and bracken to the summit. Had to leave a marker on the fence to make sure I got the right route back. Good views though and managed to dodge the showers all afternoon.

Closest trig point to my house in the Scottish Borders. Walking the dogs before work, walking from my house. Walk down the single track main road from Hass Cottage/Hass Fishing loch, until you reach a gate on the right hand side (approx 1/4 mile). Follow the track around until you start climbing a hill. Can either follow track completely around to the disbanded quarry and do a large climb to the summit (difficult in the summer due to bracken) or when you reach the pine forest after starting to climb, cut through the forestry access in the trees. Rather than returning the way I came, I tend to head through the forest towards White Hill and then follow the track within The Hass all the way back to Hass Lochs. The views from the top of Shaw Craig are spectacular in every direction. Easy climb, but worth it.
