From car park to north via Cat's Tor and back again. Spectacularly wonderful weather, blue skies, chilly breeze. The stone paved path looks like a miracle of engineering. 150 runners came past over the space of about an hour and a half doing a very hilly half marathon from Buxton. Twiggy on best behaviour, standing out of the way for most of them. Many hang gliders at the top. Brilliant couple of hours.

Visited during a 10.4 mile hike starting from Errwood Reservoir. Fantastic views from the pillar especially towards Macclesfield and beyond. Shutlingsloe & The Cat & Fiddle are both easily visible. The pillar appears to be in good condition but the original centre for the spider has been replaced with a plain disc.

Multiple re-visit to this pillar with Maria Jones this time & to make ADCC. This pillar is unique with numbers on the flush bracket representing the 21st birthday of Alan Dawson the inventor of the Marilyn Hill list and this is the first time that his birthday trig Pillar numbered Trigs is actually on a Marilyn summit.. probably the only time that they are on the Marilyn summit.

Walked on a circular from Errwood Reservoir visiting Errwood Hall, Foxlow Edge, Cats Tor then onto the trig at Shining Tor (County Top of Cheshire) Unfortunately there was absolutely no visability as the fog came down. Thankfully the paths were good and easy to follow down. The trig was in good condition. It’s another one for my revisit list

Layby spaces opposite the Cat and Fiddle. Well defined path leads all the way to this pillar. Surrounding flagstones at its base.There is even a small gate that allows access through the stone wall. Painted white the spider has a plastic infill and two small padlocks on one of the hooks. Fantastic panoramic views. Paragliders below the Tor on western side.

There are numerous routes to arrive at this majestic pillar, the highest peak in Cheshire. Todays walk was dedicated to the many people who have specifically travelled to bag this trig and had no view and rubbish weather. Today was spectacular and not a soul to be seen. By the by work is going on at the Cat and Fiddle which is reopening in summer as a whiskey distillery plus.

Third of three visited on a very windy circuit of the Goyt Valley. Approached along the ridge from the north (Pym's Chair/Cat's Tor). Gale force winds all the way, blown over twice, the ridge wall was a blessing. Fleeting glimpses of the view from the top as the clouds raced over the summit.

We walked up from the Cat & Fiddle Inn fantastic 360 views.On our return to the Inn we had lunch, I got a Ploughmans & a pint of Stowford Press Cider excellent staff/food brilliant day out.I also got both Flush Brackets at the Inn.

Parked at junc A537/minor road; easy route up past Stake Farm. Pillar looking a little weary with flaking coat of dirty white paint; foundations exposed; cap missing, composite plug; rear sight hole open, RHD side plug degrading. Views make up for it all though.

I parked at the car park near Derbyshire Bridge, then up to Burbage Edge then along to Shinning Tor via the River Goyt, nice short walk about 13km very windy and horizontal rain and sleet on the summit of Shinning Tor pillars good condition, enjoyed the views.

Good to get up here for a third time. Feels like this has a special place in Marilyn history as the flush bracket number makes it the 21st birthday of the Marilyn inventor Alan Dawson's trig walk of life and the first time this sequence is on a Marilyn summit. Highly significant and satisfying in my number nerdy world.

Climb quite steep but not too bad boggy in wet weather. Weather raining and foggy we intended to do the 7 mile circular but decided against it as you could see no views with the fog....stopped for a rest at the bench and didn't realise the trig ppint was just behind us hiding over the wall

The weather not too good today, very misty and raining. The walk was quite steep from the off set , we was going to carry on to Cats Tor and complete the 7 mile circular but decided against it because of the bad weather and the mist spoiling views .

Parked at Cat And Fiddle for a pretty short walk to the top along good paths. Done after bungee jump at Tatton Park. Extremely hot day, a drink at the pub afterwards was well appreciated. Beautiful views and also a county top.

Got this one on a 14.8 mile circular walk from Buxton railway station after bagging Axe Edge Moor and Burbage Edge. Great views from the highest point in Cheshire towards the Cheshire Plain, Shutlingsloe Hill, the mountains of North Wales, Macclesfield, Manchester, Winter Hill, Kinder Scout - and a very distant Holme Moss Transmitter on Black Hill! Out with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - and our cam up from Lamaload onto Shining Tor. So the opportunity for Geminiman and myself to make this visit was too good to be true. Pillar in good condition although the original plug has been replaced with a plastic one.

Parked at Pyms Chair and then a frustrating walk DOWN the road until we hung left up the (Redmoor?) valley which felt LakeDistrictesque in its length. Probably good views from the top, but Im still working out how I can get a Trig Point in MY garden! (The way back along the ridge, which used to be a boggy nightmare, is now a stone flagged .... nightmare!)

Amazing views today over the peaks, well worth the trusge up here, lookied for a cache here but due to sheer amount of snow was a no hoper, but who cares when you can see this view !! ended up waist high in snow at one point, a stunning place.

Walked up from the Cat & Fiddle where there was a thick fog and two inches of snow (this is mid-April!). While I was supping my pint, the landlord said the 'haze' would lift. Indeed it did. Easy, but extremely muddy walk to top, with great views all around - across Cheshire Plain into Wales.

Visited the Cat and Fiddle trigpoint first then headed up to Errwood Reservoir via Derbyshire Bridge - only to be met by a No Entry sign. Had to rejoin the A54, go to Buxton and approach from the north. Visited this pillar as part of a circular walk from Errwood car park, up to Pyms Chair, Shining Tor and back through Shooters Clough. The way from Cats Tor is now paved with rock slabs which makes for easy walking on what looks like could be very boggy ground. The wall is the county boundary between Cheshire & Derbyshire. Lovely sunny day and one of the dishes at Jodrell Bank was visible to the west.

Quite an easy trig to attain if you go straight from the Cat & Fiddle - you could do it in flip-flops when the paving goes down! Ascended from Erwood Resvr across the no-longer frozen Cats Tor route - very muddy.

Ascended from Errwood Reservoir, but the easiest way to this trig is from the Cat & Fiddle PH on the A537. There is a good path all the way but the first part from the A537 has been rather churned up recently by contractors bringing in paving slabs for path improvements.

An early morning visit to this pillar on a long walk in the area. Some good views, and the area was earily quiet. The pillar looks like it is in good condition, and has a good layer of white paint on it.

A brilliant white pillar with a plastic plug replacement and some very minor pitting of the concrete on the west/south faces of the pillar. Quite a lot of erosion around the base and a high flush-bracket plate. Spectacular views in all directions today - a fitting end to a good walk from 'The Cat and Fiddle' FBM and also found the geocache in the wall!

I saw an owl on the wall at dusk and made it think I was a mouse by sucking air through lips to make a whistling sound- it wheeled round my head for 2 minutes trying to work out if it could eat me!!

Visited when "completing the Pennine Way" A weekend walking from Chapel en le Frith to Ashbourne to complement the real thing done 6 years previously. A stile with a gomlese notice allowed us over the dyke to the pillar. The Cheshire council top - The real thing is of course boggy old Black Hill. Visited since.
