Very much a local landmark, along with the Whimble on the Radnor Forest, this was the most exciting peak on the skyline when I was a child. Had a lot to do with getting me into the old hillbashing. Unfortunately it was many years until I got up the Holy Mountain. Its a big version of Glastonbury Tor and like the Tor is a place rich in folklore and has suffered earthquake damage, a big landslip in this case. The hill is separated from the parent hill of the Black Mountains by one of Britains most active faults, one that runs to Glastonbury! Who needs ley lines, real life is thrilling enough. The hill has even given its name to a board game. A muddy walk, beaten to the top by the National Trust.. Then on up to Hereford for the footy.
