En route to the City Of Wells, our first stop was here, a Bronze Age hill-fort of six acres with two entrances. Also Iron Age artefacts have been found within so people lived up here for many hundreds of years. Brilliant site. Pillar has open cap with all s/h's open. Nearby were some succulent blackberries, and I duly picked a handful for my Lady's consumption. Then on to the splendid East Somerset Railway for a steam train ride. Finally, a visit to the magnificent Wells Cathedral.

From access road to Small Down Farm, over field gate and staight to top of this multivallate Bronze Age hill fort and trig. Pillar in good condition in the ramparts although sporting a number of hair fractures in the screed. Cap missing, no plug; all sight holes open. 360deg views would've been better but for low cloud and misty rain.

We parked at the entrance to Small Down Farm and headed straight across from there. I got the impression there might be a permissive path, as there was insulation over the electric fence etc, but there were no signs saying so. Near the entrance to the farm on the right there were a load of calves in solitary confinement, kept in plastic shelters which were like enormous cat boxes. Small Down Knoll is a well preserved hill fort and a lovely spot. Plug missing.
