Blessed with one of the rare fine and sunny days this autumn. After a run of fairly bland and uninteresting TPs, this one was a welcome change. Circular walk from Stainforth to Feizor and return. Able to spot the trig on top of the scar from a distance way off, and you know the views are going to be very appealing. Not disappointed. Just superb, particularly Penyghent, looking majestic and crystal clear in the rays. Done a 100+ TPs in Yorkshire, and this one will take lots of beating. Fantastic day including the hunt for 20+ BMs.

Bagged on a 4 mile circular walk from Stainforth via Little Stainforth. Accessed the trig from the gentler slopes towards the rear of the hill. Rather too overcast to appreciate the panoramic views today but great to ascend this hill which had tantalised us on our jaunts in the area over the past few days. 4 trigs in 4 days in the Dales, I'll count that as a result :-D

Out walking again with Bury HF on a decent day. We started from Settle and made our way along the River Ribble, stopping at Stainforth Foss before continuing to Smearsett Scar. Fantastic views around the Yorkshire Dales with Pen y Ghent and Ingleborough clearly visible.

Circular walk from Austwick via Clapham, Trow Gill, Norber Erractics, Wharfe Wood and back via Feizor and Lawkland but paths poor outside National Park. Pillar stands on an impressive crag.

Absolutely loved this trig. Did a detour while walking the Dales Highway to visit it. Easy to get to, stunning views from the top. I visited on a gorgeous sunny day though so I could see for miles. Wow!

Walked up from Hargreaves Barn, just off Stainforth Lane. A number of signs indicating that the landowner doesn't appreciate people wandering off the public footpaths, but the trig itself is in open access land. Really liked this trig. Although relatively low, there are extensive views on all directions.

Walked up from Stackhouse on a Wainwright walk, but very disappointed to find 'Happy Valley' is out of bounds to the public.From the summit there are good views of the Celtic Wall,Yorkshire peaks and the best of Ribblesdale . Stopped on the top to see the sunset and got some incredible pictures.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS readings. HISTORY: Pillar completed 24th July 1949 costing £27.15s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD96/T42 in 1951. levelled for height also in 1951. Last maintained by the OS in May 1976. SITE VISIT: Approached from SSE. Parked in Stainforth on side road (SD820673) to north of chargable car park. Local residents try to discourage visitor parking on public road in favour of their own cars with unofficial notices and illegal use of traffic cones. Up via Little Stainforth (all double yellow lines) and the Dalte High Way. Open grazing top in limestone country. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces southwest, ~212°. All sight holes open, top of pillar bolt just visible over debris. Full 360° panoramic view includes Pen-Y-Ghent, Pendle Hill, Ingleborough and Whernside.

Boy does it rain up here! Just as cabin fever was about to set in, it stopped and we made a quick dash to the nearest trig. Our efforts paid off with a beautifully sunny evening and a 360 deg panorama, well up there on the views / effort ratio (and the Sam Smiths at the Crown in H-in-R was a good reward for our mediocre efforts!). Centre and all s/holes open but otherwise vgc.

The trig and the immediate surrounding area is open access land. However the farmland you have to cross to get to it isnt. Its a nice walk up from the minor road to the east. Excellent views from this location

What a wonderful spot. Easily accessible from footpath to north. Pilar in good condition although the plug is missing. Tremendous views particularly on a sunny day like today.

Approached from the car park in Stainforth via Stainforth bridge. sleep climb from footpath trig in good condition views good if a bit misty. This trig start of a 18.38 miles round trip taking a 3 more trig.Onwards east to Moughton trig.

lovely spot. fantastic view to pen-y-ghent from an unusual angle . easy walk up from feizor- past pot scar. you can park at the far end of feizor through the gate in the climber's parking spot if you want. Steep end to the walk up from the RoW . Bench mark looks almost rusty, not verdigris'ed

Plug missing; all sighting holes open with view of the upper centre mark. A steep little hill with top somewhat cluttered by cairns/shelters. Good limestone pavement.

Had to visit this trig point in a hurry as I had come up to Giggleswick by train which was running late. As I had to catch a train back within 2 hours of visiting the trig point I literally 'jogged across the Scar'! This was my first 'bag' of 2005.

Terrific view towards Pen Y Ghent from the trig. Usual route up from Stainforth. No public RoW path to the trig but there are paths there from both Stainforth & Feizor. No cars, on foot! And again 23/03/2005 + 11/07/2008
