First time was first Welsh Marilyn three weeks after nine weeks in Warwick hospital having remarkably survived 12 bore shotgun blast, 300 pellets in the belly middle of the night from nine feet across the landing 28/2/70. Thank you brilliant surgeons in Warwick. Topograph topped round trig pillar... Foul clagged in, howling a gale... Shared with two random guys from Manchester. Wish I'd left an hour earlier might've been less hostile.

The train and paths were very busy, this being a Saturday with good weather between periods of wind and rain. There was not enough time to queue for a selfie at the pillar but I managed a quick close-up of the flush bracket followed by a selfie just below.

We made the ascent via the Watkin Path and descended via the Cambrian Way passing over the ridges of Bwlch Main & Clogwyn Du. It was a clear day with amazing views at all points of the hike including those from the summit. Thankfully with the train not yet running, the queues for the summit were quite short. The circular pillar is in great condition and retains the original spider framed by a decorative brass disc that helps to identify the many surrounding peaks & ridges.

After many a years gap, a return to Yr Wyddfa. Gulls and ravens on clean up patrol. A glorious day and actually not too busy, all be it that despite its glorious mass and shape its a difficult one to feel a sense of mountain wilderness at times. On to its far more airy and wild neighbour afterwards. Which means the highest and third highest trigs I've recorded are on this walk. Up on the PyG back on the more wild and beautiful Miners Track, the last of the light grabbing Moel Siabod.

Its 4.5 miles up to the summit, and it took me 2.5 hours, reaching the summit at 6am. Despite that, still came across around 20 people, either on the route or at the summit. Most had camped out for the night. Some people were lost, as they had taken no navigation with them. Small queue at the summit to photograph the pillar, with some queue jumping by certain individuals. I just waited my turn and ignored it, as it was no more than what I expected before I set out. Very nice scenery, but it has been somewhat ruined by having been reduced to a tourist trap. No more than a tick boxing exercise for me, on what is likely to be my one and only visit.

Eventually both came back out as the summit drew closer as the wind gradually picked up. Never done this mountain before in summer always the winter, and the number of people today out walking was phenomenal. The conditions were about as good as you could get walked up the pyg track helped an old guy walking up on his own who had fallen and i was concerned for his safety he was 84! and would not stop or take a drink.Anyway i stayed behind him and caught him a few times when he stumbled many bad accidents have occurred here in the past so i was glad when Bob made the summit. The top was even more packed than i had ever seen it before and had to queue to touch the trig.Another bonus for me was to see the train running for the first time and to be able to go in the cafe where i had a cold beer. You can easily see why snowdon is the most popular accessible mountain in the country.

We took the easy walk up from Llanberis, it was hot but not unbearable. We've enjoyed walking up here many times over the years, it's always been fun, but not today. We've never encountered so many obnoxious people in one place before. A girl told me to "hurry up" as she wanted to climb up on to the "thing" to have here photo taken. I of course took my time.

Very vague recollection of a trip up Snowdon with the Scouts(?) late 70's; with Andy Withers and Neil Dring in autumn 1992, we did the horseshoe including Crib Gogh, a fantastic walk, but really patchy views at best throughout; most recently this trip with Andy and Simon Leyden in bloody awful weather. Perishing cold and blowing a hoolie on the summit.

Plan was to start the Pyg Track from Pen-y-Pass YHA, but ended up having to park a fair distance down from Pen-y-Gwyrd. Such is a typical summer Bank Holiday in the UK. Do remember that an early start is advised to get a parking space unless you fancy a trek up from Llanberis town centre. Overcast day, but not unpleasant for the time of year. Spider on the top of the pillar is really impressive, expect it to be one of the best in the UK. I didn't get a photo this time but like I said, there was quite a queue and not much space to get a clear shot without elbowing a fellow walker off the platform! Nice day though.
