Parked on the Wolds Way and nice easy walk up to the trig. Trig looks well looked after standing on a bed of stones and newly painted.

I parked up on Hessleskew Lane and took the Wolds Way to the pillar, but I could easily have done this from Stoneknowle Hill and saved some walking, as it's a bit further than expected from the north. The pillar sits to the east side of the ROW, in gleaming white fresh paint in a little gravel bed and sporting a new plaque from the 'Windmill Walkers' who appear to have adopted it. Bravo - except for painting the metalwork! Interesting views of the giant windmills up close, but little else of major interest here except the easy access.

Pillar in excellent condition and is obviously being well looked after. Looks like it has recently been painted and is sat in a nice gravel base.

(691) Handy mini parking area - enough for a couple of cars - at the start of the trail. A steady ten minute walk to the pillar, with only one other walker some ways off in the distance. I did fear, as everything was becoming quite overgrown, that the pillar would be pretty much hidden. But I needn't have worried. All fully exposed. Not quite gleaming white now, but still not bad. Non original plug, and I must say, I am a tad curious about the flush bracket. It almost has a engineered stone look and feel to it. So, a replacement? But whilst in the area, I did come across another pillar like this today, so not sure. More knowledgeable folks who visit next might be able to confirm/deny/explain... Pillar history: Built on the 5th of March 1951, at a cost of £14 14s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in February of 1988.

An unplanned visit, I stumbled across this trig whilst passing by on a geocaching trail. There's a cache (home-made, quite intriguing) within a few feet. The trig is sited just off a wide bridleway, easy walk in from the road.

Unlike most other visitors I walked down to this one from the north rather than up from the south. Quite a busy track even in January. I did however object to the 4X4 out on sch a wet day and messing up the track. There was a neat geacache on the way as well. Haven't wind turbines got an awful lot quieter over the years. I remember when you could hear the drone from miles away. I was sure sober by the time I got back to the car!

First day off work this year - but what a grey day for walking. Parked at North Newbald near the village hall and did a circular via the dry valley north of Big Hill then south down the Wolds Way. Very quiet and had trig all to myself. Easy access right on the Wolds Way. Shame about the views - pea soup all round but the trig itself is in fine condition. Returned via Swin Dale and saw a deer roaming in the woods. My first East Yorkshire trig on log 36.

It was nice to see this one resplendant in white paint. A couple of walkers were taking advantage of the "In Memory" bench a bit further down the hill. I liked your picture with the tree, Andy!

Easy to find at the side of the Wolds Way. Base data has this and Hotham Hill both as S6293. Hotham is correct, this is S6295. Scratched circular plastic insert in mount.
