Approached from the Mart side, walked almost as far as the quarry and then headed up the hill opposite. A lumpy, tussocky, heathery walk to the pillar. Light snow shower at the top and far more extensive views than I expected.

An easy trigpoint, can be seen from the main road, took the quarry road in towards the small cottages, and took a direct route up hill, I have desended into the trees from the top. Been many times to this one, only 1.5 miles from my front door.

Went via glencruitten woods. Walked the track as far as the quarry and then went uphill. Had to clamber over a barbed wire fence, ripped my leggings! Might be better approached from the auction mart side. Nice views.

Nosed the car into what seemed to be a lorry park near entrance to quarry (NM 8646 2771) - all quiet at 5pm. Took the track towards Upper Soroba (private house), and veered off N at the wooden chalet. A broad band of dense bracken had to be circumnavigated as it contained nettles - a combo not sitting well with shorts and previously lacerated lower limbs! Once above the bracken, ground is long grass and very tussockated (new word). Pillar has a chunk of concrete missing from one top edge; top cap replaced with an asphalt plug; rear sight hole open. Extensive views to local hills.

Tried detouring to the right through fields to avoid the house at the end of the quarry road - slow and ripped knee out of trousers on barbed wire. This also led to a much prolonged ascent through the tussocks - horrific ankle twisting stuff. Recommend going up quarry road to house and cutting up to left -it'll still be hellish but shorter and your trousers will remain intact. Be warned!!!
