3/3 pillars visited on our first day out on Dartmoor and the weather took a turn when leaving this pillar. It was on our route back to Lydford so obvious to visit and named after the village to the West. Devon deserves the three visited, had no expectations, therefore a pleasant surprise in many ways.

Bagged while running the Sourton Tors fell race - therefore did not stop to take a photo. Race HQ at the Bearslake Inn, brutal climb up to the Tor, fly back down again. 2.6 tough miles.

I arrived at the time a couple were placing flowers on the trig as a memorial to their daughter. Had a lovely chat with them and they came from America. They now know what a trig pillar is.

It's got a small chunk taken out of it but the views from here are amazing. Sourton Tors is in the permitted camping zone so we took full advantage of this fact.

A really jaggered tor, not being made from granite. Datmoorsheep and my furthest west point on our east to west. Good palce for lunch. Now we needed to trundle on to Okehampton to catch the bus!

Absolutely outstanding location. I can (on a clear day) see at least 4 other trigs. The nearby disused ice factory is fascinating and the views are magnificent. Slightly damaged trig but everything else makes up for it :)

Nice easy access from parking outside the village hall opposite the Highwayman pub. Rain had cleared just as we arrived so enjoyed some sunshine as Shorty ran ahead to be first on top. Trig has been nibbled and has good views especially to west and Meldon reservoir peeks into sight too.

2nd trig of day bagged after a yomp out to Yes Tor from Bundu campsite. Really like this one because it's on the edge of the moor and views are wonderful of N Devon and Cornwall, sadly somewhat dimmed by vis today but appreciable nonetheless.

Again, wonderful views today! Pillar is slightly damaged - chunk of concrete missing adjacent to flush bracket, area of patched repair under flush bracket and repaired crack around pillar at flush-bracket level. No plug. No paint. Granite oputcrops all round. Concrete base exposed at ground level. Plug appears to be leaning ever so slightly [or is it me???].

Parking at Sourton church; short walk SE to summit. Looked for 2 benchmark rivets on rocks near trig, but like looking for proverbial needle. Pillar has some weather damage: top screed badly cracked and partially missing; chunk of concrete missing from one vertical corner; numerous fractures. Perhaps should be re-classified 'Damaged'. Cap missing, no plug; rear sight hole only open. All this completely redeemed by the extensive 360deg views; E and S over the moors in particular.

Parked at Meldon Reservoir car park and walked up the footpath to the Tor. A lovely day and an easy walk. Great views all around during lunch (bacon roll) we could see for 20 miles or more. The gorse was in full bloom and looked great.

My first walk and trig point on Dartmoor. Short, steep walk up from Sourton church, using the West Devon Way. Fantastic views, must return and explore the park again. Warm and sunny. Jacob enjoyed it too. Only downside was driving home up the M5.

A deceivingly hard tor to climb, but the sense of achievement and the views are worth it. The trig has no plug, 3 out of 4 holes in the bottom are filled in, a large chunk is missing from one side of the pillar and a smaller chunk from the top and there are many cracks in the pillar as well.

Climbed up from Sourton Village. Should have used the track beside the church but chose to park a bit further south and walk up through a small farm... bad choice... steep and muddy; not recommended. Pillar is damaged and the plug is missing. Good views but today it was blowing fit to bust which made it a bit uncomfortable.
