I had no GPSr with me so I couldn't record a position but I don't suppose it's moved very far!! Looks like it's had a fresh coat of white paint recently. Centre plug replaced with a plastic bung but all other metal work in place.

The third and final whitewashed trig has the best view with 4 reservoirs below. The only downside is the closeness of the Woodhead Pass. Have walked over from Dead Edge End via the Woodhead junction and tracks, a clear trod splitting off the footpath to the top after a boggy roadside patch. Continued back via FP to Winscar with the continuous chorus of curlew and lapwing that has accompanied us all day. KF

Decided to ignore this and carried on across the hillside. Could see something atop the hill in the distance but needed the zoom lens on my camera to confirm it was indeed a trig pillar. It wasn't long before I discovered why the path had been closed - three of the four sleepers spanning the stream at the bottom of the valley had collapsed into the water. Gingerly crossed the stream using the one remaining, ice covered sleeper and then followed the PROW across to Woodland Clough and up towards the A628 before taking one of several faint trods onto the top of South Nab. Pillar is in good condition with plastic cap although its white coat is starting to weather and the base is exposed by 6" or so. Expansive but bleak 360 views.
