First trig bagged on Orkney after departing the ferry at St Margaret's Hope. Pillar is sited on a large concrete slab, possible of WWII vintage, that has a definite tilt to it, thus rendering the trig unusable, therefore 'damaged' is the logical classification. An original centre cap is retained, indented lettering; front sight hole open, others not noted. Extensive views over South Ronaldsay.

I arrived late evening having spent the whole day travelling. I'd walked along the road from the ferry in Burwick, then up the farm track. A nice and easy, stress free trig was just what I needed right then. The views were good down the east side of the island and over to the west the sun was sunk low above Hoy. Certainly all that I could have asked for on my first night up here. I continued northwards until well after it was dark, bivvying down near to St. Margaret's Hope.
