Second trig of my Cumbrian coast jaunt! Wow, beautiful day, lovely spot on the verge of the beach with Black Combe behind. Situated on the edge of the golf course. Trig in good nick, original cap, memorial plaque on it. A little sunken in the sand, flush bracket just above ground level. Clambered over the fence from the beach below. Quick bit of lunch then off to conquer Black Combe!

There is parking at the beach for several vehicles. You can then access the pillar from behind the row of houses, golf club and onto the course. Views to the east took in Black Combe and to the west an offshore wind farm (the largest installed one in the world). I gift this to the pair of swans in Cumbria who have had 10 cygnets this year, and all have survived.

Nice end to the day with a bit of sunshine and a walk on a west Cumbria "beach". Not a beach of golden sand as you would find in s Wales but a beach of flat, smoothly rounded, grey stones, palm size or less, stretching as far as the eye could see, not easy for walking on. Many dozens of giant wind turbines far out to sea, interesting!

An enforced diversion due to a road closure meant we were driving close to this one on out way back from a day in the hills. Just enough energy left after parking the car to walk south along the shingle beach and up onto the perimeter of the golf course to bag this one. A blustery afternoon meant no golfers around and an easy bag.

The RoW (Cumbrian Coastal Way) is along the beach, then a clamber up the bank to the trig, not ideal in wet and windy weather. An original cap is retained, lightly indented lettering; RHS sight hole open. Extensive sea and landscapes.

Duly wandered along the beach and I intended to collect a few pocketfulls of nice small pebbles on the way back. Climbed up and over the fence to get to the trig. Having excavated a bit of sand to reveal the full flush bracket, I was lying on the ground making a pencil rubbing of it, when the same golf gentleman from before came up and said, "Ah I see you're interested in the trig. I saw you climb over the fence, so I thought I come and check out as I saw a young lad with you and we've had a bit of trouble from people coming and vandalising stuff on some of the tees." We walked off through the clubhouse area with the last couple of the competition day hunting for two lost balls on the approach to the 18th.
