After a bit of digging around I found that the pillar had been saved and is now standing next to the weighbridge at the end of the quarry access road. The location is in a busy part of the quarry and access is difficult. Without chancing your arm at the office (or having a site contact) the only hope is a distant view over the site offices from the quarry boundary fence to the east. Pillar shows signs of damage probably caused during the move.

The good news is that this pillar is still there - at the time of writing. Now under threat from the neighbouring quarry. Borders Council have just given planning consent for the quarry to expand despite objections from many locals and Midlothian Council. Unfortunately, this hill moved from Midlothian to Borders in the 1996 Local Government reorganisation. This hill overlooks the Lothians and Fife but is not seen from the Borders due to higher hills to the south. This pillar will soon be at the mercy of the Skene Group. More info in Trigonomy files.
