(Revisit) We parked in the large layby at Rotten Hill, headed up the swampy shooting track to the old dismantled railway route and then after 1/4 mile stravaiged south as straight as we could, direct to the pillar through the heather on a compass bearing. The pillar is still in good nick with a full set of metalwork, albeit heavily weathered. The weather on this particular visit was not far short of apocalyptic, and with the light failing our party almost became a Mountain Rescue statistic. Pillar #98 for my little trigbagger, and very well done to her for braving the conditions.

Parked at the steep incline road se723953. There are more parking places further up the hill. Followed the dismantled railway line in a north west direction as far as the Three Howes tumulus and a westerly walk. Save yourself the off piste route. In retrospect the dismantled railway line provides a much better navigational route. Should have continue NW to se702949 then taken a compass bearing to pillar.

Circular walk from Bank Top car park, N up the head of Rosedale. Checked first with the gamekeeper of a shooting party that they were going in the opposite direction! Easy to find from the E but more difficult to cut through to the track to the N, ended up wading through a sea of heather and bog. Add in the climb back up Chimney Bank having stopped at the pub in Rosedale for lunch, and I need a rest! Pillar in vgc if rather lichen covered; good all round views; w s/hole open, metal cap shallow letters.
