Starting from Kettlehulme, completed a 7.5 mile circular hike taking in Black Hill & Sponds Hill. These are two of the Peak District Ethels with the latter also being the location of this pillar, sited just off the Gritstone Trail. I walked south to North along the trail with views of Manchester on my left and the rolling hills of the Peak District on my right. The pillar appeared to be in generally good condition but the foundations were partially exposed and the original centre for the spider had been replaced with composite material.
