One of four trigs bagged on the way to Harrogate. This was the third. Parked I the lay-by next to the pillar on Stairfoot Lane, which is a single track road in this area. Could have touched the pillar without getting out of the car. The pillar is in generally good condition but the original centre for the spider has been replaced with a plain disc. Good views accross the farmland. At the time of my visit the nearest field was full of sheepl

Can almost touch it from the car!. Roadside on a narrow lane with passing places and one passing place set conveniently close to the pillar and its accompanying large tree. Nothing much to write home about but a perfect bag for the lazy!

Parked in Alwoodly village green car park (free ) on King lane, walked on PROW to Stairfoot lane then up lane to trig, you can also park in small car park on Stairfoot lane, Trig in great condition on the roadside at the side of a large tree with good views, Replacement centre cap fitted.

6 of 6 on a drive/cycle/walk trigging day. (Time is approximate, I lost my ruddy notes.) Not that far by by bike from The Bowshaws trig, but took a wrong turning on the lanes N of Eccup Res which meant doubling back. However, what a relaxed weekend atmosphere there was. Yorkshire Water in its wisdom have closed the lanes around the res to through traffic and created a 3 mile route round it. Plenty of peope were strolling and cycling about, great! I eventually got to the trig, set up on a small embankment on the N side of a lane off the road. From there through Alwoodley and back to Harwewood. I had planned on 7 trigs but diversions meant I had to miss out on number seven, Brandon Hill. Add it to the last three to bag on sheet 289, for another day.

This is a bit of a special one, used to go to Eccup reservoir in the 90s way before all this trig stuff. It is indeed a busy road but like so much of Leeds hangs on to that old rural feel and to think it's green all the way from here to the city.

(1739) Stairfoot Lane is quite narrow - and well used, but managed to squeeze in enough to park up at the pillar. Located next to a tree, and showing a slight lean. Centre cap non OS, but all else is good. Pillar history: Built on the 13th of December 1946, at a cost of £6 3s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in September of 1986.

Difficult to spot if driving south to north, or if in summer as I did, as trig is tucked in tight next to a tree on the narrow verge/field boundary. I ended up parking tight on the last bend of the road, and walking down to bag it. The pillar is in excellent shape really, and has nice views - as it's also a bit of a pain to walk to (Stairfoot is a very narrow, busy country lane - not ideal walking) it doesn't seem to attract much attention. The only worry would be the tree roots toppling it perhaps.

Can't believe we overlooked this one when visiting The Bowshaws in 2010, not as if it was out of the way ! Parked outside the properties near the junction with King Lane and walked back. Quite a pleasant rural location but not an extensive viewpoint.

Drove past the trig to park at the makeshift car park further down the hill. Walked back up the hill to the trig admiring the woodland and on a very clear day the views were good up Wharfedale. North Leeds is grand indeed. Trig is next to a tree on N side of Stairfoot Lane and is unmissable. Good condition with plastic plug. The lane does see cars aplenty, but its ok if you (and indeed they) take care. Returned home via ring road to discover Garforth cliff has become the latest victim of senseless development. Glad I went to that trig when I did, RIP Garforth Cliff field. Hope the trig survives but another piece of Yorkshire has changed forever. Shame on them.

Last of day easy road trig lots of flooding on road today,trig in vgc plastic plug poor views.Thats the end of another holiday back to work tommorow!

nearest trig point to where I live, so had to be bagged. Was part of a jaw bone on the base for some reason too! Nice location on the edge of the lane. But watch out for speeding motorists here!

Log #29. (161m). Bagged on 4.46 km walk from Alwoodley to Meanwood on a very foggy day. Couldnt see anything, even the car that nearly ran me down while I was photographing the Pillar, which is right at the edge of the road. Also planned to bag Tunnel How Hill Trig today, near the end of my walk, but I couldnt find it! Low score for, well - everything!

The trig is easily found in a passing place down the lane from the last houses. It was green and slimmy and the weather was filthy.

Easy access and reasonably visible. Situated on roadside banking with all round access restricted by large tree and fence. Flush bracket roadside. Not a view point. Plastic cap.
