Parked up in the layby at the entrance to the Golf Club and squeezed through the gab between wall and fence right by the pillar. Uninspiring roadside trig made better by the view of the Western Fells, especially today as they were snow covered. Not much to see in any other direction. Probably a nice place to play golf though.

Easy road side trig, pulled up in lay by at entrance to the golf club where it stands. Made up for not getting to last one. Trig in decent order, someone's put in a modified CD as a cap.

Stocking filler visit, located next to layby and adjacent to convenient hedge. Then followed an edgy exit from Whitehaven area, staying high on B-roads to avoid multiple floods on low lying roads after 36 hours of rain.

Located in the Whitehaven Golf Club car park, the FB is facing towards the road but is visible through a gap between wall and fence post. Building of the new £3.5m club house has been completed but landscaping around the car park area continues, hopefully the pillar will not be affected. Cap is missing, no plug; 2 sight holes open. Views E towards the Lakeland fells.

HISTORY: Pillar built in December 1949 costing £7.18s.3d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY11/T55 in 1952. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in December 1976. SITE VISIT: Roadside pillar just inside golf club car park. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces west, ~271° into fence post. Vented through north and east sight holes.
