It was a cold, misty morning and I was wearing boat shoes, having made a spur of the moment decision to bag some of Nottingham's trigs. I got as far as the Sisley Avenue access point and reason took over. I enjoy this game but I wasn't going to let a cold lump of concrete covered in ivy with no view overcome my desire for warm, dry feet. Not this trig, not this time.

Sixth of 8 on a cycle ride W of Nottingham. Awkward to get to this one. Went to the end of the S cul-de-sac of Sisley Ave, left the bike in a back yard with permission, climbed over the barbed wire, walked N by the field edge which was full of oilseed, turned the corner and found the trig smothered in ivy. Is there an easier way? Should have asked at farm. I ripped the stuff off the front, shears are needed for the top. Every subsequent trigger-rip a bit of it off! Views to the N. Off to Stapleford Hill.

Not a foot touched any of the neat lines of new growth. Patches of melting hail on ground.

Couldn't find it 28th Apr 2004  12:45  by Father Ted

I am going to have to put this down as my first failure as the trig probably exists but I could not get to it. I think it is probably nestling in a hedge the field at the back of number 90 or 92 Sisley Avenue. I asked in both properties but neither knew anything about a four foot concrete pillar which suggests it is not in their back gardens. The oil seed rape crop in the field was flowering and planted right up to the field boundary so accessing the field at this time of year was pretty impossible. One of the householders advised me to have a word with the farm which is apparently on Blake Road but there was not much point in me doing this at this time because even if permission had been granted access is not currently possible. A revisit when the crop has been harvested may be in order.
