Pillar sitting in crop-bearing field, easily accessed via a stile at the side of the South Downs Way. Tractor trails enabled me to reach the trig without damaging the crop beneath my size elevens. Decent view across to Truleigh Hill and Brighton & Hove.

Parked in entrance gateway to New Hill Barn then walked along the South Down way towards the trig point. Crossing over a stile into the trig field about 100m from the trig, field of stubble. Good views over the downs.

Close to the South Downs Way, from the south, it is about 50 yards to the left of the path. There’s a stile about 200 meters before the trig point to make access easier. Great views. Invigorating on a blustery December morning.

From Steep Down I joined the South Downs Way for some easy walking on the wide trackway which contains much flint. The track is a 'white road' as many of our old coach & horses routes were before the invention of tar macadam. A quick 'hop' over the fence for this one, and a careful tread between young green growth to reach the pillar which has its cap in place (shallow lettering) and two sight-holes open.

Nice walk up from the car parking spot only 0.4 miles down the track. The trig is about 40m from footpath but no crops in field yet. Pretty cold up here but the sun did make a brief appearance. Activated the trig for WAB (amateur radio net) and took clues from the trig for a local geocache. Thanks Lost.

I parked at the start of the By-Way to the south-east and then followed it and paths to the pillar. This is just off the path in a cultivated field, but not a problem to reach at this time of the year. The pillar seems to be in very good condition and still retains an indented lettered plug. Another nice view point on a glorious spring day.

VGC. Superb views to Shoreham and the Seven Sisters! but the low sun obscured the view to the west. Trig is about 20m off of the bridleway. GPSr gave the elevation as 186m.

Second trig for this date. A longer walk than the last one (TP4257)but just as pleasant. My wife has claimed this one as she touched it first but as with the last one I did all the hard bits so it is mine.In a field but very easy to find although there is soon to be crop in this field by the look of it.
