Very busy being a bank holiday Monday. Happily all sprogs and dogs were congregated by a very ugly concrete shelter to the north, I got the trig area all to myself. Clear views of Sharpness and the 2 Severn bridges. Incorporated the trig into a long and scenic circular walk.

White painted pillar overlooking a very wide valley - views all the way across the Severn - at the edge of a golf course. Very easily accessed late in the day as the sun was going down - barely any golfers present. Other hill furniture present included a toposcope and a memorial concrete bench. Well worth a visit.

Parked on slip road of Yercombe Lodge and approached from footpath near Drakestone Lodge up very steep and interesting footpath. Once past trig descended back to road from north. Very warm day, lovely views and trig is sparkling white in it's new coat of paint.

Walked round this lovely hill using Cotswold Way from the golf car park. Hazey but fantastic views in all directions.Nice shelter, pillar & old stone bench.Planned to carry on to the monument at Nibley but a very late night in Bristol put paid to that.Will return..

The pillar is sited on the edge of a golf course; there is a topograph nearby, it is close to the edge of the scarp of an almost detached part of the Cotswolds. There is a car park in the centre of the hill and the Cotswold Way makes a loop around the crest of the scarp. The pillar is painted white, has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S1508. The view is outstanding and includes: the Vale of Berkeley; the Severn with its power station, docks and bridges; the Mendips on the horizon; the hills of the Forest of Dean; the Malvern Hills and Bredon Hill. A circuit of the hill top takes in some pleasant woodland and several other view points, Hollow Combe is particularly picturesque. There is a cut bench mark on a small stone post in front of a memorial shelter. Parts of the scarp of the hill have been designated an SSSI, the common land of the hill top have recently been the site of skirmishes between golfers and walkers. Today was bright and very breezy, not much sign of wildlife but many golfers and dog walkers about.

parking on the golf course (not by the clubhouse) nice simple walk around on tracks for great view of the lower Severn Valley. Care needed on return, follow cotswold way signs if in doubt as the most visible track will tempt you down into the valley

This pillar is in a position that commands superb views over the plains below. There is a golf course surrounding it, but the Cotswold Way passes right by the pillar and this makes access easy.
