Walked up from the village of Bilbrough in pleasant sunshiny weather following on from much morning rain. Splashed my way up the lane climbing over two farm-gates to easily find the pillar nestling in its hedge. Asphalt cap in place, 3 sight-holes closed, the other hidden.

3rd and final on way home from biking in dalby forest. Parked to west adjacent to A64. Took the bike up the road and onto the track. Gate was unlocked, so I was able ride all the way to the pillar. Itchy.

Parked on roadside for short walk along a track to the pillar. At the time of my visit there was a lot of activity with the adjoining land being prepared for a steeplechase event. The pillar is just in front of a wire fence and is generally in good condition albeit the original spider centre has been replaced with concrete or similar.

(2375) Gateway entrance to the W of the pillar for parking. No anti-climb paint now, so quick and easy over the gate. Steady enough walk down the track to the pillar - though I failed to take notice of the water tower everyone else seems to have stopped and looked at. Pillar in reasonable condition, though leaning somewhat, and missing its original centre cap - a replacement one has been fitted. Pillar history: Built on the 14th of February 1946, build cost not listed in archive. Last maintained by the OS in August of 1984.

I parked in front of the locked gate and hopped over. Most of the silly vandal paint has worn off. There was an interesting tower/antennae and water tower, but really it's just a couple of hundred feet of country lane. The trig sits on the north side and is in good nick apart from the obvious lean and the usual weathering and light lichen/vegetation.

(221) Tried to get this one a year ago but was thwarted by the vast amount of anti vandal paint on the gate, Came prepared this time with dust sheet but didn’t require it as paint had dried out sufficiently for me to climb over fencing, followed track past water tower and found the pillar at the side of the track.

Roadside verge parking to W, beware anti-climb paint unnecessarily applied to top rail of farm gate. Pillar sits to N side of a farm track with a definite tilt to it rendering it damaged as would be unusable. Centre cap gone, mortar plug replaces; all sight holes closed. Marginal views S through hedgerow.

3/4 Cycled crom Long Marston trig, this one an easy find in hedge on a lane. I came in from the W passing arial and unusual water tower. Limited views to E. Cycle back to Rufforth.

Stopping over in York for a couple of nights and this was the second of two before brunch on Sunday. Parked in the Buckles Inn car park and walked back up the road to the gate at the end of the track leading to the water tower. The pillar is along the track, a couple of hundred yards past the tower on the LHS.

along track to Askham Bryan agricultural college; past numbered fields with flocks of sheep which looked as if they had been newly washed and brushed. Pillar at side of track, leaning slightly, plug replaced with resin. Nearby water tower is worth a look.

Train to York/843 Coastliner bus to the Buckles Inn,then the short walk to trig with the Mrs on my birthday.A nice walk around York lunch in the Three Tuns with a few Ciders hence the 10 score.We have not been to York since our eldest daughter graduated from York st John in 2009.

Asphalt cap. Leaning to north. On track beyond mast and adjacent to an interesting water tower which appears to be an add-on to an old windmill. The tank also has a castellated top.

A lovely short walk from the lane end. The water tower is very interesting and obviously a converted windmill. Now there is a telecommunications tower there too. Three centuries of cutting edge technology on this hill. The trig itself is in great condition albeit somewhat leaning tower of Pisa like. Central plug long since gone.

went to this local trig prob 15 years ago but never logged it, but got pic of me sitting on it with a precarious look on my face as it was leaning considerably, but on this visit it didn't seem to be so much Wonder if someone's done remedial job on it, though this seems unlikely. With it's 'date no.'flush bracket we need a photo of it on 1st May 2012 holding a Daily paper!

Easy walk along lane from W over 2 gates. Yes it's leaning a bit and original plug gone and filled in, but can't see why this is even 'slightly damaged'; should be 'good' in my book. Flaking remains of white paint, loud traffic from A64, field of noisy calves, agricultural views.

Log #49. (43m). Close on the heels of Wanderer, I too took the Coastliner to Buckles Inn, setting off on a 12.6 km hike via Stock Hill, Askam Bryan, Rufforth Airfield, Knapton Moor to Poppleton Trig and on to Poppleton Rail Station for the journey home. Not much in the way of views in the Vale of York, made worse by this confounded Fog thats been around this region for the past 2 weeks. Couldn,t see any damage to the trig, although it has been pushed slightly off vertical, I guess by a trainee tractor driver from the Agri College.

easy access over the gate and down the track with no problems, trig leaning slighly,a quick nip over the gate near the trig gets you to a very nice looking bump which doubles as the York u/a county top.

Approached this one along the track from the west, and past the water tower. Leaning slightly. The views would probable have been better when the Trig was first put in position and the hedge was not so tall.

Accessible and visible. I approached along the track passing the radio mast and water tower. The gate to the track had to be climbed but the gate beyond the mast opened and the pillar is just at the side of the track and soon can be seen. Virtually no views to speak of and there is a constant sound of traffic from the nearby A64. Pillar is in good condition with concrete plug and all holes sealed.

Beyond the Mast and strangely eye-catching water tower.. she's slightly squinty but I'm not going to start carrying a plumb-bob! ;-) The cap and all sights are filled.

The gate was locked but we could get to the trig easily. Plenty of sheep around. Easy to see why it is here with a good view all around... especially the A64!

OK, it's leaning slightly but in my opinion it's still in good condition. Came up from Taddy and it's simple enough to climb the fence/gate just west of the Buckles Inn on the A64. Noisy A64 & the view's not what you'd call spectacular but on a clear day I guess the view west would be an ok arable landscape. No cars, on foot.

I approached this from the side of the College of Agriculture. The track marked on the map is barely that but does lead up to the copse in which this leaning trig lives.
