Cycled along Monarch's Way that was mostly concrete so an easy ride. Then up BW to trig that is in an empty filed laid to grass. Not much of a view.

Wouldn't recommend parking, stopping or walking on very busy main road. Possible to park and start from gate @ ST983352 Farmer recently mowed field margins so a grassy walk round

Walked up from Teffont Down past Down Farm and crossed Grim's Ditch to easily find this slightly leaning pillar which has no cap & one sight-hole open. Enjoyable day's walking in and around the Nadder Valley.

Leaning. To avoid the hassle of trying to pull off the A303, I approached from the S - straightforward parking and access.

Parking on either side of the A303 where it's crossed by the bridleway near the trig, but traffic is fast so you need to know where the pull in is. Pillar is located in a rough pasture 180m from the road. It is looking a little sorry for itself; has a definite lean as it slowly sinks into the soil; cap is missing; difficult to know if the sight holes are open or sealed; partially covered with moss. Partial views N, but uninspiring.

Parked at Bapton. In between the freight trains I was hoping to photograph I decided to walk up to the trig which I am assuming is named after the nearby Stockton Wood rather than the village of Stockton which is some distance away in the valley.Followed the bridleway and then a farm track which brought me out for couple of hundred yards of hell beside the A303.Across into the field.Trig point has a lean and virtually no views.Continued south on the bridleway crossing Grim's Ditch. If I had had a map with me and seen Teffont Down I would have gone down to it as well.Turned north up the minor road and took the bridleway (actually a tarmac road) beside and under the A303 where it turns back to a dirt track.

Pleasant approach from the bridleway to the south. The pillar itself has a slight lean and any views from the spot are now obscured by hedgerows, apart from the constant stream of traffic on the A303.
