A spectacularly pampered trig - not only is it in excellent condition, but the landowner has made a feature of it by planting two rows of trees across his field, to form an avenue leading up to it! The footpath leading to it runs past the farmer's animal pens, so I got to say hello to some pigs and chickens and a horse on the way up. The sight holes in the trig itself have been overrun by ants, who've decided the pillar makes a perfect readymade nest. None of which stopped me retrieving a 2p coin which was lodged in the hole under the flush bracket. Exchange is no robbery, so I swapped it for a (European) 20 cent piece.

Parked at the junction of Stoke Hill and the minor road (point 'A' on the attached satellite image), then walked up the minor road until I reached the 3 bins for the house (point 'B'). Went left at 'B', then turned right into the field at 'C' where the nice horses, pigs and chickens were. Then down the fenced tree-lined avenue 'D' straight to the trig. The landowner must have created the fenced tree-lined avenue specifically to feature the trig. The grass had been mowed to create a nice path to it. Trig in good condition, original metal cap with lightly indented letterings, right sighthole closed, all other sightholes open. Sightholes becoming filled with sand and being used as an ants nest. I left a 2p coin in the front sighthole (immediately below the FB) for the next visitor to find.

Open access from nearby Test Way footpath. Sited in a long narrow enclosure surrounded by open wooden railings but a path has been mowed through the long grass from opposite the nearby farm buildings. 3 sight holes open. Spider in place.

Parked on Stoke Hill where the minor road branches off for Stokehill Farm. Walked west to Stokehill Farm and then on a restricted byway. Trig is located in a horse paddock fairly close to the farm, no one around so hopped the fence for a short trespass. Very minor chipping to one of the top edges and a small vertical crack at sight hole height running down to the base on one side - both minor so still classifying as 'good'. Original metal centre cap present; 3 sight holes open, one sealed. No views to speak of.

We parked as close as we could to Stokehill Farm and then went straight to the trig. It's in the same field as the footpath, and as it is pasture, I don't think there's a problem with access. You're pretty well shielded from 'the farmhouse' (which seems to have been converted into des res's), by a leylandii hedge (probably planted to shield the des residents from pleb walkers}. Plug wuith indented lettering.
