Approached from east, no obvious high ground. Reached village of Stoke Lyne, then turned around and pulled over at field entrance on south side of road at start of footpath. No sign of pillar in field. Headed south east towards field boundary. Used detailed map on here to help as wanted to get to Banbury by 2pm. South from corner of hedge peering into very dense bushes, just spotted pillar after about fifteen metres. No obvious way through. Managed to squeeze through on hands and knees a few metres north of the pillar. Pillar very well sheltered by hedge, just east side clear of vegetation. Thank you to previous visitors. Field view to east. Spider and plugged cap in place. Leaning to west, therefore logged as damaged.

Being enveloped into the hedge, cleared it a little. Leaning badly, as noted by the OS when it was only 32mm out of true - a bit more now I suspect. Must be more than 'slightly damaged' with that much tilt so have re-classified it 'Damaged'. Chunk of concrete missing from one vertical edge; top edges/corners chipped; cap missing, asphalt plug; rear sight hole open. In a poor state.

The Wanderer's instructions are excellent - approach via the bridleway from the west would be more difficult. The pillar is hard to spot at this time of year, deeply buried in the hedge between a newly-ploughed field and a wheat field. Concrete plug replacement; traces of paint; sightholes not visible. The concrete base is heavily undermined on the east side and the pillar may be leaning just slightly. There are two large chunks of concrete missing from the right hand edge of the east face. When I prepare for a trig point hunt, I use Memory Map to give me the co-ordinates of the points I'm hunting. So far, they've been good enough to enable me to locate the trig point in question. They've never been more that a few 10's of feet out. This one, however eluded me. The co-ordinates placed it in the middle of a wheat field about 150 feet from the nearest hedge. It certainly wasn't present in the wheat field. I got to withing about 20 feet using the tractor tracks and as the wheat was only about 18 inches high if the T/P was there, I would have seen it. Upon re-checking the memory co-ordinates with the ones quoted on this data base there was a discrepancy of about 88 feet in the easting whch would have put the T/P that much closer to the nearest hedge. It is possible that the T/P is concealed within the hedge but said hedge was extremely dense and it was impossible to see into it at this time of year.
