A joint visit with Carole. Drove down the track towards Highdyke Farm and parked beside tunnel embankment. Then an easy climb onto the top. Since the last visit all vegetation had been cut back making it easy to see and approach. In good condition and still retains an original metal plug with indented lettering.

I failed to find this pillar some years ago, having wrongly thought it was in the vicinity of the mobile phone mast on its separate section of tunnel spoil, so I'm glad to get it right now. A grassy track led me up on to the top of the pile and then a double-back through the weeds to get to the pillar close to the NE edge of the bank. An interesting location on the top of a tunnel that I often pass through, and near where Mallard set its steam speed record in 1938.

The pillar stands on top of a thistly embankment above the line of a rail tunnel in farmland to the south of Grantham. The embankment was approached on the track for Highdyke Farm from the minor road to the north. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S2105. Trees and bushes restrict the view from the trig. The surrounding countryside is mostly flattish farmland. Mist and haze restricted the visibility this morning.
