Autumn colours abound and always "feels good" to see the sea! Worked often in this area, but missed out the last couple of years so nice to have a reason to come back, and bag 2 x TPs, and collect 15+ BMs. Chose a great autumnal day - blue skies, a plethora of colour and best of all, no one else! Fantastic day, yet again.

An excellent trig to visit. I parked as others have done in the small hardstanding at the gated entrance to the forest track, and then walked for 10 minutes along a very muddy path. The track turns left and then suddenly opens up where the trig sits atop a barrow, with the trees cleared beyond it. Stunning views out to sea! The pillar is in fine condition, albeit with a replacement asphalt cap and slightly exposed foundations. I returned the same way.

Parked at end of track through forest. A bit muddy in places but about 500m in. Surprisingly good views over the sea, but Scarborough obscured by tree’s.

Parked in layby at road junction and followed boggy PROW right up to Pillar. Trig sits on a small mound with great views looking out towards the seas. Replacement centre cap fitted

From the road junction to the SW along the very wet and muddy path but good views from the trig and notices asking off road motor cyclists not to drive over the ancient monument.

Arrived Scarborough 08.40, 06.18 train from Skipton, 07.22 from Leeds. A trip organised by my Wife & Kids for my 60th birthday which is tomorrow. They booked me in at The Crown Spa Hotel & are picking me up early tomorrow morning for a surprise day out. A wet start to the day which picked up once at the Trig.

Walked up the bridle way and then along the wee triggers path to the trig which isn't easy to spot in the vegetation.

Parked at start of unsigned footpath at SW. Easy 10 minute approach. Pillar hidden in undergrowth at left bend in track. Brambles fun when wearing shorts. Trig in good condition, too many trees for views.

Parked to the south,theres enough room for a couple of cars by the silver barrier,a quick 5minute walk through the forest using the excellent track,the pillar is located on the bend with a faint path leading off to the right on a small mound.not easily visible from the track due to overgrowth but a nice little clearing once at the pillar,can imagine the views were spectacular 50years ago,but a nice location.

4th one of the morning, and a bit harder to get to (the way I went anyway) parked by buildings to south and took ROW north before heading up the steep slope into the trees to find pillar just off the path at the top - came back following path to the SW and taking road back to car

Last maintained by the OS in June 1984. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked in track entrance at SE988917. Easy walk along mapped track to trig. In woods. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~251°. Vented through SE sight hole. No view due to surrounding woods.
