Good parking across the road. Went straight up the steep embankment, gorse can be easily avoided, field gate at the top. Trig is located half a metre on NW side of stock fencing, in gorse, but not too dense. FB can be seen from the field. Pillar has a mortar cap sealing central tube; rear sight hole open, LHS plug degrading. Panoramic views, but need to be tall enough to see over the gorse for those to N and W.

The coast road north from Maryport provides a number of trigs to bag very easily and this is one of them. The lay by on the beach offers parking. Steep muddy clamber through the gorse bushes to the ridge. Located other side of a wire fence and protected from westerly winds by more gorse bushes.

Parked in the beach carpark opposite, crossed road and went through gate to field below. Noticed a gate to the left for a less steep way up but decided on the short way up. A grassy passage through the gorse led to another gate into the top field. Pillar is becoming engulfed by the gorse which is obscuring the view.

SITE VISIT: Obstructive fence in front of pillar and initially part hidden by gorse, quick gardening job done for photography. Otherwise in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 134 SE, inland. Vented though sight hole on FB face. Quite a steep hike up through dense undergrowth considering the low altitude.
