A frustrating evening of attempted Trig Pointing was finaly rewarded with a fantastic TP on a glorious evening. Intended to do Harbottle but got thwarted in the woods by a ferocious swarm of midges! Retreated back to do Weighill Pike, but lots of farming activity going on and one approach was through a field of sheep, and the other approach through a field of cows so thought better of doing it with the dog...so we ended up doing this one, and its a stunner! Approached from a Cul de Sac in Rothbury called Blaeberry Hill and followed FP up to and beyond the radio mast then followed easy track round west and then north before cutting up to the TP.

We'd spent the day visiting Cragside (See http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/cragside). I wanted to explore the old carriage drive, built by Lord Armstrong for pleasure rides by him and his visitors to the Cragside Estate. It would conveniently take in the Target Plantation trig point (Brae Head). However, the others decided to stop in the pub (the Railway - a slightly odd, old fashioned boozer, selling the cheapest beer in Rothbury), so I set off to walk it by myself - and a lovely early evening walk it was.
