Got a great buzz of this one very quiet but a very big industrial area, felt like you should not be there and would be in big trouble if you were caught which seemed to add to the drama.Found the gap in the fence quite easily but it was tough going to the trig and back but its done now wonder how long you will be able to access this one.

thanks to lost lads excellent info I found this quite easy to get to.i parked on the closed road opposite the substation and made my way up the road and over the yellow bridge.after a few yards I turned right and found a suitable gap up the embankment. I then headed over scrubland towards the containers. on reaching the broken down pallets I turned right and reached the fence.the loose slat is quite easy to find and it was easy to get through.a bit of a fumble through the small trees soon led me to the pillar in very good glad to have bagged this one after a recent deluge of visitors, get it while you can!!

To be honest I'd pretty much given up any realistic hope of ever bagging this one given its location. However, quite by chance I happened to notice a couple of recent, successful logs on here and therefore decided to try my own luck. So, from the A6178 Sheffield Rd I took the now closed Grange Ln down the side of Tata Steel's Rotherham site. After crossing the yellow railed footbridge you need to continue south on Grange Ln for another 30metres or so before climbing the bank on your right (plenty of obvious trods). Now head west across the scrub towards the container depot. As you approach the container depot you will encounter plenty of wooden pallets and plastic sheeting on the ground - this is where you then need to make for the boundary fence of Tata Steel's Rotherham site where you will find two loose slats in the fence at SK 41147 91190. Having negotiated the fence your final challenge is to continue heading west whilst bashing your way through the hawthorn until the pillar finally comes into view. Winter months are definitely the time to visit this one !! For the first time ever I cheated and used my GPS to guide me in. In good condition with metal cap. FB faces NE. No views due to the saplings but I doubt they'd be particularly attractive anyway !! Retraced my steps but exited via the single gap in the fence (mentioned by Borderer) without any difficulty even though I'm not quite as slim as I used to be.

I've wanted to visit this for some time. Followed Borderer's excellent directions. Can park/turn on old road. From gap in fence go left and keep going. You can't miss it when you get there at this time of year.

Unfortunately I didn't refer to this site before attempting this one but by chance had some success. Parked on the closed road to the east (now a path) and over the bridge. Following the Palisade fencing to the west I found a gap in the fence just short of the container depot. Try as I might I couldn't squeeze through and gave up, fortunately on the way back to the car I spied a second gap with two loose staves which I got through quite easily. After a struggle through the tree plantation containing lots of Hawthorn managed to locate the pillar which was in a good condition. I guess that this will become more difficult as the plantation matures.

This is (was) the closest un-visited pillar to home by a considerable margin. I'd read the previous logs, and knew that my friend "What's the Point" had been successful. Having stayed last night at Hathersage, cycled through Sheffield, the obvious onward route to Rotherham and Doncaster passed Templeborough and I thought I could afford the time to have look and was equipped with a map print. Turned off A6178 on to lane signed "closed to through traffic 2007" opposite Parcelforce depot. Crossed yellow railed bridge and tracked perimeter fence to right. Access gained and ducked under and pushed aside lower twigs and branches of trees and a few minutes searching brought success. Various debris made outside fence hazardous while inside was a safer "normal" wood search!

Read previous logs and went armed with information. First attempt was from west via PROW following security fence and 33,000V cables. Clearly no access this way. Next tactic was down Balk Lane from the south. Easy walk along lane and then down the side of the golf course until we came to new security fence (at approx GR SK 410 908) for MTL distribution warehouse. No joy this way either. Final attempt was via the access road for MTL distribution warehouse where it is possible to park car at approx SK 413 911. Walked up bank towards pillar to be met with two more new security fences. No obvious way in. Will have to seek assistance for the retry. Access to MTL warehouse area is very secure indeed.

The log from my first visit on 10th March was as follows - I was passing on the M1 so I thought Id take a look surely it couldnt be that difficult Ive jumped plenty of barbed wire and trampled on lots of private land. I walked up the path to the west the site is surrounded by an inner steel fence and an outer wire fence with barbed wire both nine feet high in between is a cleared track with a power distribution system. The perimeter is watched by cctv masts, floodlights and danger 33000 volt signs. It would be easier to break into Fort Knox. I left in awe of the trigpointing masters and determined to improve my fence jumping skills. I had success on my second visit 18th March after guidance from the masters. Its a tight squeeze with lots of thorns and saplings to negotiate. Since this was a particularly challenging trigpoint I will celebrate by including a photo of my special birthday cake from the previous day.

In celebration - a trigpointing birthday cake.

A pre-dawn raid with Carole [who was returning to prove that if at first you dont succeed......] to beat those pesky security people. The pillar is well and truely camoflaged now by the ever growing saplings which together with the gloom made it a spread search with Carole bumping into the pillar first. Everything in good order. Original indented plug. Marking reflects the success element more than the surroundings.

Offered escorted access IF failure via Distribution yard off Grange Lane to S (who now own the embankment upon which the pillar is, according to Brinksworth/Corus Steel Mill). Not so, they say it belongs to BOC - again not so and no access from their perinmiter fence from W (there is however a very small gap bewteen concrete fence posts of security fence at SK409910 acessed from W but this is very narrow and large screws jut into gap - did not dare risk getting stuck or not being able to return). No access via closed road from NE nor via Golf Club from SE. Did not return for escorted access as pillar on rough, wooded embankment which i did not think a member of staff would enjoy as much as me!

First attempt at reaching this one was from the footpath to the SW; this led into a gap between two parallel security fences and was able to reach SK409910. From there could just see the top of the pillar but no way forward; fence well-constructed 8-(. Then tried an approach from the south; along Grange Lane, past the golf course and the entrance to the Sainsbury's depot as far as the works entrance - easy enough to SK412912 but then the security fence again with CCTV. So this is one to think about.
