Onwards from Fort Purbrook; not sure why we didn't log this when walking the Pilgrim's Way in 2010. Easy parking at the Lido, and a short stroll round the jet ski course and up onto the Bastion. Amazing what collecting trigs does to your knowledge of history. Currently a goodly sized hole in the wire netting, so able to establish trig in vgc with metal cap with deep letters still in place, although all s/holes are buried. No views to speak of.

I parked over the road in the East as the Lido one was full. From there over the foot bridge and along past the water, from there up the steep hill marker "Keep Off" and on to top path. Pillar is located a few meters along the path, just on the wrong side of the fence, however, there is a hole right next to it, so getting direct touching access no problem today. Good condition no views as in the hedge.

Parked in car park at Hilsea Lido and walked west along moat, up steps to top of Bastion and then followed path eastwards to view pillar through chain link fence. Fence has been cut to allow access at some point but repaired from playing fields side with long lengths of dried out brambles!

Parked in Portsmouth Grammar School car park and walked in, past the impressive and new-looking Fawcett Pavillion building, up the steps to top of the old fortifications (the bastion), only to determine pillar wasn't accessible from here. Went round to the footpath to the N, only to see the pillar through the chain-link fence! How frustrating. Returned to the school playing fields, spoke with the groundsman who was happy for me to re-access the bastion where I finally found it. My luck was that there were no children on the sportsfield today and the groundsman wasn't upset that I didn't ask the first time. Pillar found overgrown with scrubby elder, bramble & ivy, access awkward requiring a short scramble up a steep bank. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; LHD side sight hole open. No views.
