This is a great walking area among the Tarrant villages: Monkton, Rawston, Rushton, Keyneston, and particularly Crawford with its superb mediaeval wall paintings within St Maryís Church. Have been up here several times previously, but inexplicably didnít record the trig. The pillar, which has an open cap & one s/h open, sits on a trackway which has recently been cleared, making the approach much easier. Dorset was beautifully carpeted with thousands of snowdrops today. Magnificent.

Scenic drive home after an errand to Poole; the countryside here around looks little changed from Thomas Hardy's time. Very overcast, on a better day there would be good views around west horizon, but east overshadowed by hedge and broad brow of hill. Pillar on sizeable concrete plinth, centre and north s/hole are open, but otherwise in vgc.

The cream coloured pillar stands next to a track between two fields on a low downland ridge to the east of Blandford Forum. The base of the pillar is exposed by up to six inches. It lacks a cap or plug and has FB S6024. The site is easily reached from the minor road to the north east. The view, particularly to the north, is mostly of the surrounding rolling downland of fields and woods of the interior of Cranborne Chase. Charborough Tower could be seen on the horizon to the south.
