Rain was hoying down as we set off from Timbersbrook CP and we emerged from the NT woods on to the summit plateau in murk and drizzle but by the time we'd reached the TP and toposcope the sun was breaking through, glinting off the dish of Jodrell Bank to the NW. The initial poor weather did mean we had the entire hill and woods to ourselves, something I doubt would be the case with more clement conditions! Although this was a 'halfway stop-off' on a trip from our home in the north en-route to a friends wedding in the south I'd have been upset if we'd had no views at all from this hill, and although not perfect the diversion into Cheshire ultimately proved worthwhile.

I was asked to paint this as was told it had been covered in graffiti…… when I arrived I realised someone had painted it in a crude rainbow colour, someone had then painted over it with Gloss white, I spent ages preparing this for paint and it was very late when I applied the final coat, I saw some youths on their way up to the trig and warned them it was still wet ….. the views day or night are amazing so I can see why they go up their, when I reached the wallabie enclosure (it’s a real thing !) I heard young people’s voices swearing and saying it’s all over them !!!!! I went up the next day for more photos and sure enough someone had lent on it with wet paint !!!!!!! I painted it AGAIN and stayed till it was dry this time

L

That was after all the other paint was removed ! This had been done with spray cans as well

My plan for today was to visit this trig point, two Geocaches and and Earth Cache at the Cloud up in them there 'ills above Congleton, then continue towards Macclesfield for one more Earth Cache. So, having arrived and parked at a small cut-in, I made my way up to the summit. It was a good path and easy going underfoot, the views even for a hazy day were splendid, I kept stopping every few yards just to take it in. Once at the summit I obtained the pillar data then spent quite some time soaking up the atmosphere, what a fabulous place this is.

Pillar sits on its own stone plinth and has a toposcope for company. FB faces ** with just one sight-hole open and a tarmac cap. Full 360 views although those to the West across the Cheshire plain are too flat for me. Views NE across the Staffordshire Peak District are good though and include The Roaches, Shutlingsloe and Axe Edge. Despite the leaden skies Fiddlers Ferry power station (27 miles), The Wrekin (39 miles) and possibly Liverpool Cathedral (38 miles) were all visible.
