Was informed it was used more in winter/spring months. Path does now seem to be permissive, and the pillar is only a short walk from that. All good - centre cap non original though. A nice and easy one to bag all told. Pillar history: Built on the 10th of July 1947, at a cost of £8 19s 11d. Last maintained by the OS in August of 1986.

Up the track from Ambler Croft and asked permission at the stables - readily granted and told to go along track and through gate into field. Vast amounts of mud around but it has rained continuously for the last 2 months. Trig readily visible at top of almost grassless field containing about 20 horses mostly wearing coats and mud and looking bored. They didn't show any interest in me as I passed. In fact I'm sure I heard one mutter "it's just another trigging nerd"!

The final pillar of a tremendous day out was the best of the lot. After parking up on Amblers Croft, I walked up the track - and you can clearly see the trig on the hilltop ahead - but it was really obvious from the word go that I'd need the landowner's permission. The two riding schools/stables at the end of the lane were packed with mums taking their daughters riding, and cars coming and going. I got chatting to one of the mums and she directed me to Brendan at the house - and Brendan turned out to be a very friendly chap who happily granted me permission to visit the trig. He sent me up the track to the trig field with a friendly bit of advice to be careful around the horses. One of the mums came with me, and we got chatting about what trigs are, why I'd want to spend my Sunday bagging them, where I'm from, where I work, inside leg measurement, etc etc. The pillar sits with a lovely sweeping view, protected by thorny scrub and dedicated horses, and is in fine condition, albeit with a replacement cap. I struggled through the mud back to the car, having waved a goodbye to the gaggle of mums. Then it was onwards to The Calverley Arms for a restorative pint. Great outing.

Trespass not necessary however, as I approached the farm and got permission, which was given without hesitation. On this lovely sunny but cold day, I took the 760 bus to Park Rd, then walked up Amblers Croft, and up the lane before climbing up to the Trig. I then continued along the lane to the NE and noticed that there used to be a ROW here. There are ancient trods still in place (parts now buried) and the path eventually drops down to a step style to join a ROW thru Dawson Wood, which I followed to join Ainsbury Av. I then followed the FPs all the way around thru Buck Wood to join Buck Mill Lane, where I dropped down to the swing bridge over the canal and the long FB over the River Wharfe to arrive at Otley Rd in Tong Park.
