A sharp contrast to my first visit 4 months ago. The boggy track now has the appearance of a dried river bed and the going is good. No livestock in the field and it shows - vegetation almost knee-deep right up to the pillar itself.

Knee-high vegetation now the field is not used for grazing

Parked in Theakley village and walked up (boggy) track towards pillar. As I reached the edge of the field where the pillar is sited I met a party of female equestrians. I was advised politely not to enter the field owing to the excitable state of the horses at that time. I decided to take the advice but spent some time enjoying watching those same horses galloping round the field. Not a wasted journey ! (This is a landmark - the number of trigs I have bagged in West Yorkshire now equals the number bagged in my home county of Kent !)

The pillar, horses and me - taken with 18-250 telephoto at full stretch !
Wild horses Not what I came here for but worth watching.

Log #38. (151m). Very nicely perched on top of a knoll with good views all round. As reported by others, an abundance of horses here, all wanting their share of Polo mints. Trespass not necessary however, as I approached the farm and got permission, which was given without hesitation. On this lovely sunny but cold day, I took the 760 bus to Park Rd, then walked up Amblers Croft, and up the lane before climbing up to the Trig. I then continued along the lane to the NE and noticed that there used to be a ROW here. There are ancient trods still in place (parts now buried) and the path eventually drops down to a step style to join a ROW thru Dawson Wood, which I followed to join Ainsbury Av. I then followed the FPs all the way around thru Buck Wood to join Buck Mill Lane, where I dropped down to the swing bridge over the canal and the long FB over the River Wharfe to arrive at Otley Rd in Tong Park. A fab walk thru the woods, with good geology and a delightful 5 km walk.
