Wind, hail, cold and wet and boggy. Started at the Nick of Pendle and did a short 2 mile walk to the trig and back. Will need to visit the trig again better weather and search for Jeppe Knape grave.

Visited on a cold windy day. Approached from one of the layby/car parks on Clitheroe Road. 15 minute walk on an established path. The pillar is crumbling a little at the base. There's small broken off pieces on the ground. A good vantage point.

First part of path easy, but near vertical climb up bank quite strenuous. We did take more direct, harder route. I think there was a longer, easy route nearby. Trig in good condition and the views, in my opinion, stunning.

Walked from Black Hill via paths passing Wiswell Moor Houses as I wanted to find Jeppe Knave Grave. Access from south onto open access is not easy but I found a spot to scale substantial wall SW of spot height 223. There is a decent path running NE from the trig towards the Nick of Pendle. Off to Pendle Hill next before returning via Upper Ogden Reservoir and Sabden Fold.

Precious little to see anywhere today-gloomy low cloud spoiling the views. Had a squelchy but straght forward trek up from Nick of Pendle with Leics family member Andy. At least he appreciated being in the misty heart of the Pendle Witch country.

Glorious spot, feeling far more lofty and exposed than it's height suggests, Clitheroe below with Bowland sprawling in the distance. Growing grey and heavy before some late afternoon sun. Curlews, pipits, skylarks, a lot of people climbing up Pendle where we are splendidly alone.

Last maintained by the OS in October 1980. SITE VISIT: Good parking off west side of Clitheroe Road at SD771384, Nick of Pendle. Up over rocks and direct route southwest most of which follows a lightly worn quad track. Pillar in good condition. Spider fitted with grey plastic disc by Jon Rouse, 21st May 2000. Flush bracket faces WNW, ~289°. Vented through SE sight hole. Full 360° open skyline.

Walked over from Clitheroe to get this one - should have done it from Whalley for quickness. A real tough old slog from a farm up to this one! Went onto bag Pendle Hill and then back to Clitheroe on a 15 mile circular. You can follow this walk by tapping Fell Finder into Google.

Visited nearby Jeppe Knave's grave marker "Mystery surrounds this marker stone on Wiswell Moor near Pendle. It is said to be the burial site of Jeppe Curteys (Geoffrey Curtis), a local robber who was decapitated for his crimes in 1327. The inscription is thought to have been made by the Scouting Association in the 1960's but there is evidence to suggest it may have been a chambered passage tomb of the Neolithic period". It is certainly a lonely and isolated spot and a great local legend.
