Parked up at the little pull-in by the pumping station and set off for the trig. Then I heard the trill of the loud alarm from the pumping station! So I ignored it and just kept going! A field of newly emerged OSR, but with a wide headland so no damage to the crop. Loved the views. Looking down onto the lower plains of the River Ure. Good fertile land enjoying the decent autumn weather, and a few sheep in neighbouring fields. So peaceful! Also walked the lane looking for 10+ BMs - didn't meet a soul. I arrived back at the car a couple of hours later, the alarm had stopped and the car was in 1 piece. One of my favourite "low-lying" TPs, to date.

Easy 100 metres traipse across the field from the road to the east set on field border underneath a tree canopying it. Re-visit for air dry clay FB mould

Our visit took the same approach as the majority of visitors - we drove down Thiefgate Lane, parked up in the entrance to the pumping station/communication tower, and then nipped through the hedge opposite. At this time of year the hedge and collapsed fence provides no obstacle, and the farmer has left a good wide scrub strip between the two fields, so there was no danger of trampling the very infant crop. The pillar stands on this scrub strip, just past a large ash tree. It's in fine (if heavily weathered) condition with a full set of metalwork; views limited down to Masham and Nidderdale. We retraced our steps - a great, easy trespass trig this.

Parked up by the Comms Tower and made my way through the hedge into the field. Followed the boundary up to the large tree and the pillar sits just past it. Nice views westward over Colsterdale, no so much in other directions. Field was quite muddy.

Left the Geocachers in the car and sprinted around the field to log. First time actively seeking a Trig to log.. the bug has bitten ! Nice views down to Masham.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 3rd July 1953 costing £15.2s.9d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE38/T89 in 1955. Levelled for height in 1973. Last maintained by the OS in March 1975. SITE VISIT: Approached from east. Parked in entrance to comms mast compound, east side of Thiefgate Lane at SE245811. Through hedge on west side of lane following field edge to trig. Located on northerly edge of arable field. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces southeast, ~142°. Vented through NW sight hole. Limited open outlook.

Just a hundred yards or so along the field edge off the equally very minor road (Thiefgate Lane) just east of Masham. Reasonable though unspectacular views (for this part of the country) westwards. Trig has original plug in situ and has obviously been painted at some time in the not-too-distant past.

Highly visible and easily accessible. I parked near the radio mast and walked down the lane to and entrance into the field. Pillar can then be seen and it is a simple of matter of walking to it - prior to harvest it would have needed a field edge walk. Everything in good order. Some extensive views of the surrounding area.

Not ad views of surrounding hills a weather fronts moving across the region. Good find. Parked in the gate opposite through the hedge on the other side of the road, saw the trig once through the hadge on the field boundry.

I did not spot the gate into the field, so a bit of a scramble through the trees and undergrowth from the lane into the field was needed. The views are limited. The FB is on the S side.

Quite easy to access off nearby lane but wheat crop rather wet after the rain. Original plug with deeply-indented letters. Some white paint. Sightholes either closed or invisible. Good views of the dales from here. In hedgerow.
