Approached from the SE along a footpath called "Monk's House Ride". The location is great, amazing views in all directions. A local runner stopped and we had a long chat about what I was doing and he offered some good guidance about my next destination as well as what I could see from there. Congrats to his team Burnley who were promoted back to the Premier League that evening.

Did on a circular walk from the singing ringing tree with MickSan. Trig in good condition, slight bit of damage on top. Great views off in all directions, new paint job and still does have it's original centre cap

Parked on Burnley Road. Took the public right of way (PRoW) from there. A reservoir now occupies part of the PRoW, so had to walk around that, before rejoining the PRoW and walking up to the pillar.

An FRA 50@50 fell race starting from Holme in Cliviger. A natty little race which used the hill well and the pillar was a control that had to be touched. Some plonker had inscribed a "poem" or something similar on one of the sides. Didn't stop to read. The trig was for the old dears who had tirelessly made tons of cakes and then poured numerous cups of tea for the runners. All served with a smile.

Nice spot overlooking Cliviger and Pendle Hill and the Yorkshire Dales Peaks to the North. Trig has its original plug, nice coat of paint too. Second trig this morn, have rambled over from Broad Clough along the Long Duke. Skies have cleared too!

A one off treat on a hill that I've wanted to do properly for years - after Tod Moor it's the glorious space of Deerplay then the source of the Irwell (suitably Irwellish). Empty space waving at distant people and getting sniffed at by some highland cows. N Yks in the haze the West Pennine/Irwell hills dotting out to Pendle and Bowland. Bliss.

I walked up on a revisit from the Deerplay Inn on the A671,an easy if breezy walk up in decent weather.On down to Holme Chapel next to visit the church of Saint John the Divine to log the 1GL Bolt & visit the grave of General Sir James Yorke Scarlett known for leading the charge of the Heavy Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava in the Crimean War.

Approached from SSW. Parked in wide entrance to track, NE side of A671, ~150m SE of disused pub. Followed mapped RoW network to top starting from just west of the former pub. Trig pillar stands NE side of fenceline. Column in good condition. Spider has replacement OS cap with raised small narrow letters. Flush bracket faces WNW, ~285°. All four sight holes open, innards blocked with debris. Full 360° panoramic view.

No access to the car park at the closed Deerplay Inn, but easy roadside parking. Ground mainly frozen so only a few snow patches and bits of wet ground on the route to the ridge path. Half buried memorial stones in the field behind the Deerplay - was there a burial ground here?

An after the event logging from a visit prior to finding this site. [Re-visited on 27.08.08 whilst walking the Todmorden Boundary Marathon Walk which passes near by and on the way to lunch at tthe Ram Inn in Kliviger][Yet another visit on another walk on 19.11.08 to take photos. A wild wet and windy day with any views hidden by low cloud.]

Condition looked good to me, but my eyes might be failing. All metalwork inc plug was intact. Little evidence of mountain bikers as noticed by MAC.HAWK last year.

Visibility was poor today with a heavy haze hanging over everywhere. Done on a Toddy circular walk via Trough Edge End, the pike, Portsmouth and Stones. Unfortunately the bikers (motor & pedal) have 'found' the route up from the south and whilst the path isn't wrecked (yet!!) how long before it is ?

Great views from here over to Pendle in particular. This was the site of an ancient beacon, no sign of it now. I approached from the South today but I am more used to the climb out of Holme Chapel on the Theiveley Pike Fell Race.

Small chunk out of top, otherwise fair condition. Views over Burnley and Pendle; several of the Yorkshire 2000' tops identifiable.

trig - Stoodley Pike in the distance (again) above the fence.
trig - plug in good condition; minor damage to pillar.
trig - wind farms remind me of berserk morris dancers for some reason.
