1st August and could just about see the individual cairns next to the trig!! Low cloud and mist enveloped the hill just as i was half way up it from the lay by to the SW.

My second visit, route as before from the SW. The weather better than previous visit, air clarity superb and the views from here in all directions were amazing. A really remote spot, yet (on a non firing day) really easy to get to. Awesome.

From NT 7979 0764. All roads on the Otterburn range open and drivable today (although some were grass tracks and several streams to ford and gates to open - at least on the 'short cut' from Carter Bar that my satnav led me!). Centre tube has no cap or plug; front sight hole open, RHS plug degrading. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked at a convenient layby with a style indicating direction to travel along the ridge. Followed a quad track which made the walk so much easier. Fantastic weather conditions provided us with panoramic and extensive views. A rare opportunity to experience remoteness without harsh weather. This trig is situated next to 3 Bronze age cairns. Spent time trying to identify all the hill tops and sections of the Border Ridge. Returning to Alwinton we captured great views of Chew Green.

The walk across the moor looks like it could be hard going but some ATV tracks virtually from the stile at point 509 means this is a very easy TP to reach. Extensive views in all directions, including the eastern hills of the Lake District. Just to the immediate North West is a great view of the Roman encampment of Chew Green.

Advertised as a non-firing day. Parked in the handy layby at the 509 spot height to SW of trig. With the light fading fast I went over the stile and followed quad bike tracks all the way to the pillar. Excellent panoramic view.

Took advantage of a non-firing weekend on the Otterburn ranges. Parked on the saddle at the highest point on the miliary road. Wet walk across to the trig and its impressive adjoining bronze age cairns. Vast expansive views, although low cloud and rain limited the distance until later in the day. Met a guy on our way back to the car who was collecting Deweys...'it's all about lists' he said as we swapped OCD stories! Went on to have a good look around the Chew Green Roman fort and the adjoining deserted medieval village.
