Magnificent Dartmoor circular walk. On to the moor at Lud Gate, initially by way of the Two Moors Way, across Hickaton Hill, over Quickbeam Hill and onto Ugborough Moor to climb Three Barrows where the pillar has its cap with shallow lettering and two sight-holes open. Then eastwards across Hickley Plain where I walked through a large herd of grazing Dartmoor ponies. (They are quite different from the New Forest pony with which I am much more familiar). Then return via the Avon Dam Reservoir and the Abbot's Way. Full of interest throughout: ancient settlements, old tin mine workings, wild ponies, the dam, a tramway, and simply the moor itself.

Good view in all directions due to very clear day. Could see all of the way down the erme valley to Tristis rock and beyond and could see the sea in many directions. Did this on part of a Practice Walk and had to climb from Erme Wier to 3 Barrows. Extremely windy up there, especially considering that I was only wearing a T-shirt. One of the nearest to my house and I am fairly annoyed that my little brother (sambo, whose entry is featured below) who is pretty new to this fun, managed to get this one before me!
