Wandered up from Yair Bridge via the SUW. Magnificent views in all directions on a lovely afternoon. Three sets of wind farms clearly visible, Long Park north of Gala, and what were probably Dun Law up near Soutra and Crystal Rig up at Heriot. In the low sun all the hollows & hummocks in the landscape stand out much more clearly than when the sun is high.

Parked at NT 459 324, by the information point for Yair Forest. From here, a short path leads up to join the Southern Upland Way. Follow the SUW all the way to the trig, along good sign-posted paths. Note that much of the forest shown on my copy of LR73 (1988) in square NT 43 31 has now been felled. The pillar boasts three plaques declaring that it has been adopted by the Hoolet Hikers, who clearly give it a lick of paint whenever they are passing, because the paint work is immaculate. The pillar is slightly damaged, with a chunk missing from one of the top corners. A nice setting with the three large cairns, and superb views in all directions.

Pillar in good condition and sporting a fresh coat of paint at time of visit. Spider retained original OS plug with deep indented letters, later recorded stolen by 2010. Flush bracket faces NNW, ~340. Vented through south sight hole. This triangulation pillar was adopted by the Hootlet Hikers of Selkirk on 14th July 1994 and has related plaques on three sides. Three Brethren is approximately 3 miles northwest of Selkirk. The summit is an open moor and is on the Southern Upland Way. The name of this location is derived from the three large cairns which crown this top. Access is open from all directions but easiest following marked paths. Within easy reach of Selkirk, Galashiels and Innerleithen.
