(621) I thought this one would be a piece of cake, but alas it went undiscovered. I even received help from two local old boys from the allotments across the road. Was informed that the field entrance pull-in had been re-covered, and any stone chippings left over was spread on the verge and then soiled over. Any probing just kept coming against these. Also that some very heavy plant had been parked where the Berntsen was located for several months, which had compacted and rutted the ground to some degree. I wonder, given the changes, if the Berntsen wasn't disturbed and then removed? Either way, after a fair bit of searching, no sign could be found. Frustrating.

Revisited and thankfully found using Paul and Kirsty's information as a starter. Our measurements are: 15.8m from large gatepost between two gates; 17.1m from drainage grid by allotment entrance; and 3.85m from road edge. The Berntsen is not buried but flush to ground surface. Trimmed grass back around it to make it clearly visible.

not to be defeated as it hasn't been found for 5 years. found after looking at the photo of brisey boy and tried to get some sort of location. just kept prodding with the trusty long screwdriver and located. left exposed but here are the measurements for future reference: from the drain at the allotment entrance diagonally to centre of FBM 16.8m. from gate post on verge of FBM 8.2m and 3.9m from edge of road to FBM.

Little info to work from. Photos and GPS give the general location which is due west of a road drain. This lines up with a drainage ditch which has been cleared the debris being dumped on the suspected location, or its even possible the Bernsten has been dug up!!! Systematic probing did not reveal anything positive.

Wasn't expecting to get the time to look for this one and only armed with a slow internet connection and no digging or prodding tools it was impossible. Probably walked on top of it though.

Passive station H2TA2270; photo (but no sketch) in the OS passive station database. Not found on 24 Nov and 9 Dec 2007. The OS photo had a discouraging lack of detail. Location N of two open gateways opposite the allotments entrance. Soft ground but rubble just under the surface so prodding gave false positives. Forgot to check for roadside nails or paint markers. Found on 3rd visit with IRM's help. A bit further from the road edge than where I'd previously looked.

Still quite easy to find, but the last cutting of the verge was not as wide as shown in previous pictures, so it was nearly in the long grass.
