3rd visit to take GPS reading for our own records (second GPS reading in as many days to be spot on); the quarry has definitely been reactivated but can't imagine they would extend it any further towards the pillar as that would destroy the farm track too. The gorse which was almost none existent at my first visit in 2016 and was still clear of the pillar in 2020 is now close to enveloping the pillar. ~~ 24/05/20 2nd visit, hasn't really changed at all in the past four years. The gate was open when we arrived, and met the landowner at the top of the track, who was perfectly fine about us visiting the TP, but did warn us that he was locking the gate behind him as he left. To my delight, the chain that consists of more of padlocks than chain had re-appeared when we departed!

Stumbled across it by accident and not seen one since I was a child (Pontop Pike - Dipton, Co Durham) I now live close to this and found it on a dog walk Note for the listing - it's called Tynely Moor (Tynely Hamlet and Tynely Farm are nearby)

Visited trig on the way to High Newton on the Sea for a coastal walk. Gate still open and located trig easily at the top of the track. Quarry next to Trig appears to be in use judging by the churned up ground.

Parked on the old A1 and walked up the track (the gate was wide open however I spied the infamous padlocks when we left!). Lovely to see a freshly painted trig and the views across to the Cheviots and the coast were very impressive.

Easy walk up from old A1.Miserable day with low cloud so missed good views of the coast. Thundery burst of heavy rain also meant that I altered my plans of travelling to Glasgow through the Borders because of fear of getting caught up in flash flooding,

Parked by gate on old A1. The gate is chained up with a chain that consists of more padlocks than chain links! Rosie had to be ignominiously picked up and thrown over the gate - not happy! Even less happy when we found the Landrover track went up through field full of sheep, so she was kept on her lead the whole time. Maybe worth pointing out at this stage that Rosie is my dog... Excellent view of Dunstanburgh Castle on the coast; considerable amount of fresh snow on the Cheviot to the west - it's late April for goodness sake!!

My first Northumbrian pillar. Good views of a calm North Sea. The nearby quarry does now seem to be closed so hopefully this trig is in no imminent danger of disappearing. The pillar has an unengraved cap; just one sight-hole open.

Parked on the verge of the old A1, gate wide open so a nice stroll along the track straight to the pillar. Doesn't look like the neighbouring quarry is operational so the pillar should be safe for the time being.

Visited whilst up here on holiday. Very foggy day, visibility about 50 yards, could see no sign of the Wind Turbines in the photo's. Parked at the bottom of the track and its a 10 minute walked up to the trig. Note that OS Map spells it as Tynely Moor not Tinely.

As others before, parked on old A1 and walked up the track. Had to hop over padlocked gate. Great views all round but it makes you wonder if the trig will vanish into the quarry in the near future.

Revisit. For photographs and GPS reading. Approached from ESE. Parked on west side of old section of A1 at NU165235. Through adjacent gate and up mapped track all the way to trig. Adjacent quarry is operational and getting very near. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains blank OS metal centre cap which was never engraved. Flush bracke faces NNW, ~333°. Vented through NE sight hole. 180° easterly panorama and views to higher hills in the west and northwest. Photographed 27/10/2012, GRP.

Good views out to Farne Islands. Quarry workings are slowly approaching. I've noticed several centre plugs in this region has no embossing. Easy parking along old road as A1 has been rerouted.

Visited to record FB number. Pillar completed 24th November 1945 costing £7.10s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ29/25 within the Newcastle block during 1947. Levelled for height in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in October 1978. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in good condition, blank cap in spider. Flush bracket faces NNW.
