(1572) Parked at the bottom of Catley road, and took the footpaths through Tinsley Wood until I reached roughly where the pillar once stood. Exact spot pretty inaccessible. I knew this pillar was missing, but glad I took the time to visit the location. A nice walk with some fine views. Scant details in the archive, but FB was S4036, last maintained by the OS around 1985, and marked as destroyed in September of 1991.

Accessed from the Europa Link road via a bridleway which ran between the golf course and the closed Sheffield City Airport. This area is now a nature reserve and is one hell of a confusing place to wander around looking for a destroyed trig. It was once Tinsley Park Colliery. I had a good walk around looking for high ground trying my best to get to the grid reference for any signs of where the pillar could have been. In truth, wherever it was may well have gone back to nature now - inaccessible nature. Roger's photo will (again) have to do us. Nice Saturday morning walk though.

My Best Guess But I can't get in there

On a city walk with my mate, Tracker Dog, keeping to paths where possible. I'd been several times before, not trigging so this is my 'official' visit. No trig here but ok views of industrial, business and residentional Sheffield glowing in the late afternoon sun. Not bad at all.

Next to Sheffield airport; ground levels much altered. Easy access via several paths including part of the TransPennine trail. Good views over the city and the gorse is impressive, but no trig 8-( According to the OS data, it was S4036, destroyed Sep 1991.

Overlooking Sheffield Airport, you can get to the zero point through a break in the fence arround a plantation of young trees just off a footpath. However, the trig point pillar is no longer there.

Plain pillar in grassy area beside storage tanks of industrial plant. Approached along path between a golf course and the industrial complex to find a gap in the 8ft high wall surrounding the complex which allowed access to the site and pillar.
