Visited while completing a circular walk in the Beanley area. Parked opposite gate that gives access to the radio masts. Luckily had a sunny day with little breeze which enabled some great views of the area.

Excellent views all round despite watery sun and hanging mist. Stiff walk up track to mast and then found track up through heather to pillar. Stayed for about half hour and sun gradually burned through mist.

Short but steep ascent via the comms mast trqck then a left to the pillar. Relatively recent coat of whitewash on pillar, in good condition with small memorial plaque. Good views to the Cheviots and towards the radar station above Alnwick. 3rd pillar of the day

Fifth visit, with Yaffle, comparing GPS readings on two different machines. Neither matched the given co-ordinates exactly, and the two machines differed slightly. Pillar has been whitewashed since my last visit. ~~ 10/02/21 My fourth visit, first time in snow. ~~ 06/07/20 My third visit, becoming something of a bi-annual tradition. Same route as before, there is an approach from the NW I must give a try to, probably in 2022. If you only ever visit 10 TP's in Northumberland - make this one of them.

Our first trig in the bag south of the border since easing of lockdown restrictions, rather an impromptu one as we happened to be driving past and I commented that it was an interesting looking hill, quickly checked the map discovered it was a triggy! ;-) Parked on the roadside verge and headed up the track to the mast, which was a tough wee climb but well worth the effort for such stunning views. The rocky outcrop provided additional photographic interest to keep my hubby happy! :-)

Parked on the grass verge at the edge of the wood where there is a gate on to the access land. Walked around to and up the track up to the mast. Followed the quad track over to the trig.

Verge parking near mast access track. Took that track to its end, then good grass track to trig. Pillar retains an original centre cap, lightly indented lettering; rear sight hole left unplugged for drainage, RHS plug virtually all gone so that sight hole is also now open; FB is of the 'BSM' type. There is a memorial plaque afixed to the front face, above the FB. Extensive views.

Walked up access track for Com's Mast then turn onto quad track towards trigpoint. Nice easy one to start the day off. Crossbills it trees on edge of wood near mast.

Ample parking on roadside near Shepherds Law. Walking SE on the bridleway for less than 400m leads into open access land and a slight uphill to this trig point. Dedication plaque still intact on this pillar. Great views. 50mins there and back.

21/03/18 (Second Visit) An excuse (as if one was needed) to exercise the dogs, their vets being within sight from the TP in Powburn, while I was happy to reconfirm my original opinion - this is a lovely little hill with superb views. 18/04/16 - A grand little hill with cracking views all round. Easy ascent, gravel track steeply up 80m or so and the final walk up to the top from the radio mast is over well cropped grass and was remarkably dry after recent wet weather. On a day of perfect air clarity the views were superb.

After driving up from Coventry and stopping in various locations this was my first stop in Northumberland and what a fine hill this is. Walked up the track from the south and then along the path. Called in on the geocache on the way down.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS reading. SITE VISIT: Overall approach form south. Limited parking for a few cars on south verge of unclassified road at NU086156. Followed track to ~100m short of comms mast then left along edge of hill to summit. Open grazing top. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces east, ~87°. Vented through north sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view from top.

Double visit location as was able to log the neraby geocache on the same visit. Open access so pillar is easily acessible and highly visible on its hill top location. Pillar in good condition and has a memorial plaque attached to it. Some wonderful views from this elevated location. Found another bagger just leaving as I arrived.

Done as an add on to one of Derek Purdy's Northumberland Mountain Bike routes - a 12 mile ride to get 3 miles from Powburn. My son refused to let me go up the other trig near the route! The sun, the fine views and the scent of the heather almost paid for the dreadful summer we have had. Memorial plaque on pillar.
