Parked the car on St Mary's Drive beside a chapel and then headed NW along Canterbury Rd to Westfield Ln. Followed this SW up the hill (taking the right hand branch where it later forks) to the transmitter station from where it was a short walk across a waterlogged field to the pillar. Original cap has been replaced with tarmac and there is a small chunk out of one edge - hence recorded as slightly damaged (see photo). Ground around the base is quite eroded. Views are reasonable if unspectacular compared with those of the Peak District but spoilt by adjacent transmitter station.

Collected this one on the way home from visiting my brother in Dargate. I drove down the lane from Etchinghill (take the LEFT fork half way along) and parked by the Radio Station. From there, it was a short walk across the M.O.D. training ground to the pillar. It was overcast, with blustery rain and very hazy in the distance. The sort of day that dog walkers just amble round the block and steer clear of hill tops, so I had the place to myself this morning. The base is now somewhat exposed and the centre plug has been replaced with tarmac but apart from that, it’s in good condition. You can see the sea from up here... Yay! Well I think it was the sea... a bit difficult to tell with all the haze and rain.
