Lots of cows in the field and after a few close encounters I am very unsure of them, however these lot seemed a friendly bunch and although they stayed quite close to the scratching post (aka pillar) they didn't bother us. Woo hoo! #11 day#1 - now dark ;-)

Parked the car on St Mary's Drive beside a chapel and then headed NW along Canterbury Rd to Westfield Ln. Followed this SW up the hill (taking the right hand branch where it later forks) to the transmitter station from where it was a short walk across a waterlogged field to the pillar. Original cap has been replaced with tarmac and there is a small chunk out of one edge - hence recorded as slightly damaged (see photo). Ground around the base is quite eroded. Views are reasonable if unspectacular compared with those of the Peak District but spoilt by adjacent transmitter station.

Collected this one on the way home from visiting my brother in Dargate. I drove down the lane from Etchinghill (take the LEFT fork half way along) and parked by the Radio Station. From there, it was a short walk across the M.O.D. training ground to the pillar. It was overcast, with blustery rain and very hazy in the distance. The sort of day that dog walkers just amble round the block and steer clear of hill tops, so I had the place to myself this morning. The base is now somewhat exposed and the centre plug has been replaced with tarmac but apart from that, itís in good condition. You can see the sea from up here... Yay! Well I think it was the sea... a bit difficult to tell with all the haze and rain.

Very easy trig point to gain access to via the radio towers access road. Great views on a clear day of France and down to the point of Dungeness with its nuclear power stations. I have worked here on the radio tower that use to be a cross channel microwave link to France many times. Being a concrete radio tower of specific design interest it is a shame that it is now virtually naked with no dishes at all on it. Most antennas on it now are for local operators and mobile phones.
