Walled track to north badly over-grown in summer after house. Best to take direct approach over fields from track junction with minor road at SN 671 912. Do NOT use road running SSW from Cefngweiriog (SN 676 931) to Gwar-cum-uchaf (SN 673 916) - 0bviously not used by cars for some years. High grass central strip, bad state of repair in places and four gates.

The pillar stands near the side of a grass field on the summit of a hill to the north east of Aberystwyth. The trig has a metal cap with raised letters and FB S8513. The site was reached by walking up from Tal-y-bont on quiet lanes and footpaths. A red kite was seen patrolling above the valley to the south. The footpath enters the field in its southern corner 200 metres from the trig. The trig looks over Borth Bog to Cardigan Bay in the west. The hazy out line of the mountains of the Lleyn Peninsula could be seen on the horizon to the north west and the Preseli Hills in the south west. To the north the mountains on the southern fringe of Snowdonia rise above the Dovey Estuary with the summit of Cadair Idris crowned in cloud beyond. More distant tall mountains could be seen beyond the Dovey valley to the north east. The large bumpy green hills of the Cambrian Mountains could be seen to the east and to the south. The summit of Plynlimon was shrouded in cloud to the south east.
