Lovely walk today from Plean Country Park, up the Glen Road near Torburn. Onwards up past Torwood Castle and the blue pool. Leaving the forest behind, through the gate and across a field, which is boggy in places to the Trig. Nestled beside some whin bushes below the pylon line in long grass. Good view towards the Ochil Hills hampered by the pylons.

Some walks just take you by surprise. From Glen Road near Tor Burn, easy walking up past the old quarry & on to Tappoch Broch. Fabulous. Then on to the trig, leaving forest edge through a convenient gate (a bit boggy) & back a bit further South. This wooden gate was unopenable & had barbed wire on top. Past the Blue Well. This is over 10ft deep, I tested it with the longest stick I could find. Didn't know it was called this until we chose to return via Th' Auld Torwood Castle, where we met Gary, the custodian. History, guided tour, directed to the FB page. Just amazing. He's slowly saving the castle. Great wee walk, considering it was just to be a quick bag on my drive home! Love the unexpected.

Took sub station route. Robot security guard near white portacabin scared the life out of me. Very loud siren and man with a Belfast accent shouting ‘warning, warning, your prescience has been noted, the police and owner have been informed’. Ignored it with a right to roam attitude to discover you had to get over my favourite a barbed wire fence to bag the trig! Spotted some workmen high up on plyons near by.

I had big planbs for today which came to nought as my clutch went and I spent the day (after visiting this pillar) waiting for the breakdown then being relayed home. I parked at NS838851 at the end of the track goes up to Torwood Castle. Floowed track through plantation then walked across field to pillar. Easy to find due to proximity to pylon line and substation. Posssibly themost poorly situated pillar I have visited although it was here before all the electrifications. Walk enlivened by visit to Tappoch Broch and Torwood castle

I had decided to follow what other loggers have done and walk up the electricity sub-station road but as I arrived there were large signs mentioning an upgrade of the sub-station being in progress. There is a new access road, lots of porta-cabins and construction equipment. A security guard appeared and asked what I was up to and then turned me back. Next I tried asking the farm next door (Langlands) for access and this time was successful. The farmer allowed me to drive right up the track which ends roughly 5 metres NNE of the trig. The final walk to the pillar was extremely wet. Althought the trig has good views of the Ochils this is not a particularly nice spot due to the massive pylons for the Beauly-Denny line towering overhead and the construction noise coming from the sub-station.

Looking from the trig towards the Ochils. Lots of pylons around the trig spoil this spot however.

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 4th February 1946 costing £8.3s.6d. In 1947 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NS77/T7 in the Glasgow secondary block. Flush bracket S3599 was levelled for height in 1964. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in August 1984. Langlands by Denny. Almost under a pylon line. Will revisit with a camera and GPS (whats that?) in 15 years time.
