Part of an 11 1/2 mile circular route from Thropton via Great Tosson and back via Bickerton. I’m scoring it low because the conditions at the trig were awful - fog, wind and a cold chill meant a short visit. The 2 1/2 mile trudge across Tosson Hill was heavy going - so boggy. Nonetheless this is my highest trig to date and I am so pleased with myself for completing what was a very challenging day out. I must do it again in clear weather

Altitude 442m. A long trek here - parked at Tosson Limekiln (NU027010) and up to Simonside. Then to Selby's Cove in search of bench marks. Direct to Tosson, hacking through the forest and across the thick heathered moors. Decent almost directly to Bickerton. An odd route I know but I was hunting for benchmarks.

My fourth visit, with Ceri Evans. Up from the FC car park through what little is left of Tosson Wood after the destruction wreaked by Storm Arwen. From the radio mast to the cleared section below Simonside the fallen trees have yet to be cleared from across the track, about two dozen to negotiate your way under, over and around! Extremely windy today at the top but the views as ever made the walk worthwhile ~~ 15/11/20 My third visit, a big day out with Simon Rushton a ten mile three TP point to point walk. Left my car by Grasslees N of Darden Pike, and left Simon's on the B6342 at the 217 point E of Garleigh Moor and walked the length of the Simonside ridge via Garleigh Moor, Dove Crag, Simonside, Tosson Hill, Boddle Moss and Darden Rigg. Fantastic! Knackered!! ~~ 27/02/20 12:05 Beautiful day, though a cold wind on top. Four years almost to the day since I last did this TP, it was among the first I did in Northumberland and having now done the lot (twice) I do think it might just be the very best of the 156 in the county. The views are exceptional.

Started out a bit late for this one , ended up walk back last bit through woodland in the dark. The Tawny Owl calling was a nice surprise to finish off the day. Parked in the forestry Simonside car park. We walked the footpath up through the woodland and out onto a forest track which passes below Simonside. We then took the footpath along the edge of the recent fell woodland out to the gate and the open moorland. Up to this point the walking was good, but after the gate it gets a bit boggy crossing the moor to the trig point. Fantastic views with the sun shining on the Cheviot hills.
