Got as far as I could before coming across all the MOD keep out signs, so I did. It’s annoying when you see the land is being farmed but with security cameras around I didn’t fancy it.

From ESE. On way back from Tower Hill, the 3rd and hopefully final resting place for the summit of this hill. No longer grazed and the former flower rich grassland is now tussocks with a few small thorn bushes

Parked to the ESE of the trig, at the junction of the A343 and Hollom Down Rd in Jacks Bush, then walked the route attached. Got as far as the abandoned blue tractor, and was faced with the MOD signs and 5-strand barbed wire fencing. I didn't fancy trespassing on MOD land, and the red flag was flying today. But if anyone fancies it, this would be a good route to go.

the MOD sign (plenty of identical signs all over the place)

Accessed from SE on this quite and frosty Boxing Day morning; didn't see a soul - luckily. Pillar is in open tussocky grass; spider offset to one side; cap missing, no plug; RHD side and rear sight holes open. Panoramic views. ***Revisited 26 Dec 2017 with Carole Engel. Acecssed site from farm gate at Lopcombe Corner. Both tump (Isle of Wight Hill) and trig re-bagged before being spotted by MoD police at the hard standing. All very cordial but escorted off site.

vgc; no cap; MOD lab site:fine view; pristine chalk grassland with Frog Orchids &c next to trig; artillery target nearby but trig unscathed; escorted access, revisited 2004, no change - trig is not at summit (hence 2004 revisit!). Somehow forgot to upload photos, until Jul07 when Jon Rouse kindly went thru some of my photos and produced this montage...

Visited thanks to a special arangement with MOD and some trig enthusiasts. This point being the impact area for special munitions over a long period in the first half of the Twentieth Century. I went because I was bagging the tops in Ed Clements list of English 100m drop hills, and this was one of the hardest, being in the middle of Porton Down. Trig is in good condition and all the metalwork is intact. No photos - orders of our "minder". Unfortunately there is another bit of land slightly higher, so no clem bag!
